Just had news yesterday 14/12/16 . Need new engine. Ford Focus 1.0 ecoboost registered 31/01/13 has 30750 miles on clock. Noticed on Monday no heat from heater .. inspected coolant level and none !! Had AA out under Ford Assist.. took me to garage and after 24hrs gave me the dreaded news.. no warranty!! Waiting to here if Ford will give a good will gesture!!! There must be something wrong with these engines !!!

Does the car have full service history?

If so is it with ford?

Amazed at how close they are failing at 31k miles!

so in general most people with the ecoboost seem to go pop around 30-40k? Is this the 'fox' engine? (had a look on wikipedia)
I take it nobody has ever had a problem with the 1.6 Duratec Ti-VCT that they had before it.

Amazed at how close that is to the average annual mileage for the three year warranty expiry.

Does the pipe split and dump the coolant in an instant or crack and start weeping?

If the former then, there's not much the user can do, but if it leaks out slowly and people then cook the engine I don't have a huge amount of sympathy

Do you check your coolant level daily?

There isn't a problem with the engine as far as I'm aware, not a single occurrence of a block cracking as far as I'm aware either. It's an iron block anyway so that would be unlikely. There's plenty oh high mileage ones around now too. There was a problem with the a coolant hose a while ago, this was resolved with a recall. Any water-cooled engine will go 'pop' without coolant!

Of course not, but do keep an eye on it. It also smells and would leave marks on the floor when it's leaking so the user would know about leaks.

It wasn't a recall, it was a technical service bulletin, meaning that if the car was serviced outside of the Ford dealer network (likely with a fleet car) it probably didn't get seen to.

When I heard that an acquaintance had bought a three year old one I directed him to this thread. His response was something along the lines of "Yes, I know.. I opened the bonnet to show my father and saw that the coolant was low..". Credit to him for being eagle eyed, but he was also very lucky to pop the bonnet before much coolant was lost.

I think this is a case where Ford should really chase Focus owners to get the fault rectified. The plastic pipe that splits is clearly a defective design, and some unlucky consumers are getting a very raw deal. Has this been on Watchdog?

Personally I would be buying the revised part and fitting it before it got anywhere near the 30k mark.

No need to buy the part. Just take the car to a Ford dealer ask them nicely to fix it.

A quick update on our 63 plate Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost, now on 80k motorway miles. We had a full service carried out last week, i bought the parts myself and had an Indy fit them. She now runs like a dream, the engine is noticeably smoother with the new plugs.

Some downsides, 3 of the shock absorbers are leaking oil and the rear passenger brake is sticking slightly, and has worn the shoe down on that side.

I have also noticed a creaking noise going over speed bumps, perhaps a result of the knackered shocks. Has anyone else with a Fiesta notice the shock absorbers leaking at such a young age?

They are barely 3 years old and have done 80k very gentle miles, mostly in a straight line at 70mph.

80k good for a set of shocks.

I thought mine were fine on my 63k Z4 - mots all good etc but when I up graded them, front off-side was shot and the others were very tired.

Hi , does anyone know if there would be any problems replacing the 1.0 ecoboost engine with one bought from eBay ? Have been told conflicting information from ford and don't want to buy wrong engine. Some people say should be fine aslong as there the same ps (ford says mines is 105ps) was told at time it was 100 , others say it needs to have same engine number on v5 mines says M2DA but not even sure if that's right , the cars only done 37k and this will be the 3rd engine , any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Cut your losses and get rid. Buy something else.

I disagree..I changed the front shocks on my Mazda which had done 127,000 miles. They were far from shot, weren't leaking and in truth whilst the car does drive better with the new shocks on it, the improvement is fairly small TBH....I think leaking shocks at 80K on a gently driven Fiesta is not really very good..
