Thanks for all the detective work so far!

The white stuff does come off when I scratch it with a fingernail, but I couldn't get hold of my sister yet. Unfortunately I could not get hold of the Merc either, as of yet.

But I do agree that it does point in the direction of there having been a car wall interaction at some point.

So we now know the car was moving at the time of the incident, very interesting.
No. It might have been a dwarf dressed as a white gatepost, running past the car and brushing it.

Remember: eliminate the impossible, and what remains, no matter how implausible, is the truth!

If there are no fixed white gateposts in the vicinity, it can only have been a dwarf.
But you seem to have forgotten the fact that sis has been driving the car for 2 weeks, and she doesn't know any dwarfs.
<steeples fingers and ponders>

She would say that, wouldn't she...

Perhaps she didn't need to know the dwarf. A dwarf in a hurry is a desperate creature. It might have been on the run. To, or perhaps from, a circus. The sis was just in the wrong place, at the wrong time...

OP, were there any circuses in the area at the time of the incident? I think that's where you need to start asking some difficult questions. Of the dwarves. Or their keepers. Or both.
Ah ha, the old big top theory. OP does you sis have a big top?

Can you answer this one then.

Is the Merc white? If so we could be getting somewhere.

on the plus side if it is white paint a lot of it should polish out

personally i'm more inclined to say that's another car where i used to drive a slightly sheddy car in an area very tight on parking, i've come back to similar looking scrapes in a few different colours.

I would expect a post to do far more in the way of leaving a dent

Also i like to think someone who can lend his sister his car can trust her well enough to not damage his car and not tell him

The position of the damage and the way it sweeps around the bumper would make me strongly think she scraped off something rather than the opposite.

No it is dark grey.

No grey traces on the car either, just those pure white scratches.

So we can eliminate the Merc as the perp.

So is the white the bumper colour under the blue paint or has it been left by the offending object. The answer to this is vital to my ongoing investigation.

Not wanting to add to the agonizing suspense you must be feeling, I have to say that I am not quite sure.

In some places it can be scratched off, in others it looks to be the colour below the blue paint.

OP, it might help if you were to post a picture of sister wearing something flimsy. Hidden clues and all that.

Are there any Sunday League football clubs near you? Have they had to use jumpers for goalposts recently?

True. OP, check underneath the car for blood and entrails.

This is the civilized world, not Bavaria wink

Ready for the resolution of this case?

She owned up to it, and had the nerve to say "It happened one of those days, so what"...

I guess I know who is not going to use that car anymore.
