Regularly Travelling At 60 In A 30. No Remorse
Discussion
Local Authority has recently dropped a pile of dual carriageways within town from 50 to 30. Do my best not to speed but have caught myself travelling at the old limit (and then some) if not on the ball. So 60 in a 30? If I get caught I have no one to blame but myself and will accept a thrown book with good grace.
Anyone going to say my doubling of a speed limit is a disgrace and that my head should be hung in shame?

Sounds to me like an awful waste of money, should you ever get caught. I can empathise that you would like to protest but do you think this is the cleverest way of going about it?
I do my best to keep to the new limit and manage to most of the time. Problem is if I'm not absolutely on the ball I've seen my foot go down exactly where the old 50 roundel was located and slow down at the location of the old 30 limit. How hard I push the throttle is governed my muscle memory it seems. In a situation like that, I tend to ignore the speed limit to an extent, but 60 in a 30 is too risky with regards to getting caught. There was a similar dual carriageway near where I used to live, and I tended to stick to 45, which wouldn't have resulted in severe consequences had I been caught.
I have never had any points on my license but had been pulled over a fair few times. In all cases i have, politely (and apologetically) defended myself that i believed it was a sensible speed given the road, conditions and traffic. So far, that has been enough, or i've been fortunate..!
If you can hand on heart say you believe your speed is safe, then as above, it's your license...

I'll bite. OP you are a dick. Worse still the wkish talk of trying best but if not on ball / muscle memory. At the very least be honest. You disagree with the drop in limit and will drive at whatever speed you choose. Good luck.
No he's not a dick.We are all seeing this pattern up and down the country of roads that were perfectly safe at their previous limits being reduced for no good reason (to anybody with common sense).
We should just accept this?

So your right foot is acting independently from your brain?Should probably stop driving and get that sorted mate.

You could join him, although you'd really have to know the speed limit for the road you are on to get the satisfaction of giving It to 'The Man' http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
The problem is we drive at speeds which are perfectly safe if nothing happens. Andy Green survived some fairly high speeds ;-)
I think some new speed limits appear too low, but we dont know the full history of the road and why its been reduced.
My cycnical head says for money where there is a speed camera.
TBH roads are so much busier now, that unexpected events are so much more likely, when I learned to drive three lane roads and overtaking was very common. Todays traffic volumes would make these roads suicidal.
I am no angel BTW and speed to some degree, but not as a deliberate act most of the time. But as said earlier I have to accept any ticket with good grace. Its like most things we set the level to the lowest common factor...ie a low speed limit low because of a few dicks cause issues...bit like speed bumps!!
For me schools and towns 20MPH no issue but major A roads with 50 when I could turn off on to a lane and do 60mph is bloody daft!!

He should then start a campaign with wide media coverage declaring his intention to ignore the limit, pushing this as far as he can including sacrificing his licence, all for the greater good.

That's an exception though, I have no problem with reduced limits through roadworks
