I have to agree with many on here that the older version looks way better. Yes, the engine will be a belter but.....
I'm not sure about many of the MB designs lately, has Chris Bangle's brother got a job there?
But at least Bangle's designs were distinctive (and IMO look much better now than when launched). You could stick a Korean badge on most of the new Mercs and nobody would bat an eyelid. I'm not sure about many of the MB designs lately, has Chris Bangle's brother got a job there?
I agree though, the Mercs could easily be badged Kia and you wouldn't look twice.

They didn't have a problem with it before when they went C43 -> C32
Too right. I think MB started this rot in the late nineties when they introduced those wheezing supercharged four-pot 1.8 litre donks. There was (for example) a C180k, C200k and C230k, all had the same engines but the ECU tweaked to give different power outputs. So the 200 was a 1.8 which "had the power of a 2.0" and the 230 was like a 2.3 litre.... Pure and simple BS designed to mislead IMO.anonymous said:

I've got the 230k on sale from 2002 to 2005 and the 200k running from 2000 to 2009 - in Australia. All had the 1.8 litre. There were naturally aspirated 2.0 and 2.3 and they were actually 2.0 litres and 2.3 litres. THen in 2005 we got a C230 (no kompressor!) which was actually a 2.5 litre! So I was a bit innacurate in saying the rot started in the late 90's. But I think they were certainly entertaining the idea in the late nineties What the unholy fk does the badge number have to do? I have 230slk from 98 or 99 at home. Do you think I gave a damn if it's 2.3 or 1.8??? The fking supercharged doesn't work on it but I still bummed around Switzerland in it and drove outback to the UK. Nobody apart from 10 anal nutters on ph cares. Similarly nobody will care this new c class is badged 63. Good grief.

Exactly! Bmw made a 745i in the 70s or early 80s which was less than 3.5 litres, turbocharged! People ph have very short memories and very, very rose tinted specs. I really can't understand why they have launched this with the old MCT gearbox.
Why no DCT still? For me, that completly ruins it and is the main reason I didn't buy the old version. I would have bet my bottom dollar they would have updated it to dual clutch this time around, but no.
Does anyone know why?

He probably drives a McLaren F1 or something, or perhaps a Zonda R. Interesting that you do tend to find people who write things like the above often don't list their cars in their profile. Or maybe he drives a 320d, a Mondeo diesel or something else similar.
Does it matter what he drives? It'll be a cracking car and brilliant drive, all the plus points of the outgoing model and very few of the drawbacks (despite that screen the interior is still miles better). And people who don't think it's pretty enough are missing the point of both this and the predecessor. It's a bruiser, you're supposed to get out of it after a hard drive feeling violated, it's not some roadster for posing in.
The only perceivable negative for me is the engine. All the stats sound good and the figures look amazing but I doubt it'll bring a smile like the 6.2 does.
I've driven the E63S with the 5.5 Biturbo and the 6.0 V12 in the SL65 and neither shape up to it in terms of noise or delivery so I'm not expecting it to but then again, it's a very tough act to follow and it's not like keeping it was an option.
I very much like the look of this. I had a go in the 'old' C63 AMG Edition 507 earlier this week and it was fairly unhinged to say the least, so hopefully this car will keep as much of that character as is possible with the swap to a new engine. It's a shame that - yet again - the 4MATIC system won't be offered in RHD cars, however.

As a previous c63 and currently m3 owner I like it.
Trying to recall reading about a new car on pistonheads where people didnt come on and slate it. Things move on and turbo technology is the current means of keeping horsepower with reduced emissions and improved fuel economy. I'm just glad they still choose to put a "petrol head" model in the line up.
Its a cost thing I think, means they only have 1 type of dashboard across the range. I imagine it also massively reduces the chance of the screen canopy being used as a cubby hole and reduces the amount of effort to replace the screen should it be damaged/fail.Trying to recall reading about a new car on pistonheads where people didnt come on and slate it.
