To me it's interesting how ///M seems to be such a serious brand, to be discussed with furrowed brows whilst AMG seems to be so devoid of that same sense of seriousness.

Better noises too.

If it was for a volume car brand it would work better but to advertise £50k+ AMG's?

I'm reminded of the catastrophic ad campaign for the VX220 featuring Griff Rhys Jones in a pair of dodgy Y Fronts.

It might have seemed funny at the time but it killed any chance the poor car had of competing against the Elise.
Remember who you are actualy selling to. Image is important.

Whilst these two cars aren't the sexyist ( is that a word ?) cars on the road, they aren't meant to be. As daily drivers they will be brilliant - which is itsactly what they're designed for.
I used to have a 2003 BMW 330d sport auto touring, it ate miles, flowed past most moving road blocks with ease and returned 35-40mpg. The C63's ( estate would be for me) would be all of the above + and virtually the same consumption.
I currently drive an E63 5.5TT, and this for me covers the above brief but with more space for kids etc and still reasonable consumption. We'll sort of !
I happened upon an F430 Scuderia the other day, stuck with it on dual and single carriage way whilst carrying 4 passengers and luggage in comfort - that's what these cars do, enormous ability wrapped in a sensible, usable package.

Did you test drive the M4? How did it compare to the GTS?

Exactly! One of the reasons I bought a Cayman GTS over the M4.

To be honest, no. At least not before I purchased the GTS. I have subsequently driven it and I have to say the M4 is an impressive machine. Not sure if I prefer it to the E92 though as it falls down in the few areas that make that car special; engine response, rev hungriness and power delivery.
