Agree with most on here. The rear just doesn't look right, i do like the front. Interior is odd and reminds me off a startrek ship! The entertainment screen looks like a design after thought. Not a fan....

German marques underrate their cars.

2013 B8 S4 is approaching 380hp as standard
F30 M3 460 - 470bhp
2013 Audi S8 making 590bhp
2014 W212 E63 PP 4matic making 636bhp
F10 M5 making 600bhp

These are rated by magazines. The excellent Motor Trend youtube channel has a few of them being dynoed.

They have been doing it for years, Alpina were especially guilty off this with the E60 B5 which made way over 550bhp, but marked up as 500bhp, when the V10 M5 was 501 (internal politics, I would have thought)

This is partly why suggesting FWD hatches are catching up - the 4.0 turbo V8s from such cars are producing much more power than written.

Agreed. All of these new forced induction cars are producing much more power than the factory figures suggest, even on crappy California 91 octane. Hell, Motor Trend dyno'd the new Dodge Challenger Hellcat and it made 674 horsepower to the wheels! Taking into account drivetrain losses means the Hellcat is making something like 800-840 brake horsepower!

As much as I wanted to adore this car, I can't disagree frown

I thought it would have had more "flairy" arches and bulges and vents everywhere frown

I think this shape C-Class will suit the coupe better.

I reckon that’s the way to do it. Much as I prefer a Merc, Audi manage to get it spot on.
Somehow looks the same car just a little more muscular looking.

I'm really not a fan of the new design language frown Melted 90's Hyundai comes to mind...

There's no doubting its engineering though...

The wagon definitely looks the better of the two.

Errrrrr...why have they glued an iPad to the top of the dash?

This isn't too bad considering the contemporary design of the new C-Class. Have you seen what they have done to their G-Class interior?

Over 1700kg, and here the RC-F was being criticised for being too fat. Front ok, rear terrible as others have mentioend. Current car certainly has more presence. Interior is ok but that screen looks dreadful.
1650 vs 1840 DIN Mass.

No way.

Looks gaudy inside. And borderline-ugly outside.

And slow, too. The next-gen Golf R400 will be faster to 62mph and almost half the price.

It will sell, for sure. But may lose some of its cult status. A bit like the M3 is doing at the moment.
Well let's hope VW can make it feel a bit more special than the current car, but I've a feeling it will be just another Golf.

From those pictures, it doesn't look like it has the presence of the outgoing car... However I will reserve judgement until I've seen one in the metal.

Confirmation that cars are becoming too powerful. 0-100mph in around 10 seconds is more than fast enough, yet this generation of cars is dipping to 8 or below.

Instant power on tap actually diminishes the driving experience, IMO, unless you want a super fast point to point car for covering large distances at pace, which I guess is the brief of this car.

And 400 of those horses are used solely to convert rubber to CO2. :-)

Do we know what these sound like yet?

I really hope they've somehow kept the noise, for me that's 90% of the attraction over rivals.

Shame the rear end is so ugly when that's the view that 99.9% of other road traffic is going to get of the thing.

Amazing bit of kit, but cruelly fugly.

in a very short time the Mercedes range has become really ugly, WTF has happened.

and that interior is ruined by that screen, utterly ruined. And i also agree that keeping the same name as the outgoing model was a lame idea.

I would always choose an AMG C class over an M3,(in my daydreams), but not this time.

(ps. i havent the cash to buy either so i realise my opinion counts for nowt)

I do think the current / outgoing model is a better looking car...very aggressive, they sound amazing and go like the clappers (I have wasted much money at Mercedes World driving them....next best thing when you don't have the cash to buy one...)

The advances in economy are astonishing, getting a twin turbo 4.0 litre V8 with over 500bhp to fall below the top tax bracket is a real achievement in itself....I cant wait for this to go into an Aston Martin Vantage (hopefully in 510bhp format)...that engine and those looks is my idea of motoring perfection!
