Near my workplace there's a nice R32 golf driven by and older lady (65+) I've never heard it above 2k rpm. Poor car
a suggestion - it;s not necessarily correct VW's reputation and she'll no doubt go into the dealer wanting a 'top of the range' golf because anything bigger is too large / hubby has a big car from his days as a pwoerfully built company director / the chauffeur has a choice of Jag / big Merc/ BM / Bentley / Rolls for longer trips...
while the modern WAG/ yummy mummy drives a RRS the 1970s equivalent had a urGolf Gti /Mini 1275 gt/ Dolly sprint ..
This is another one of those rather odd threads.
Why does anyone care if someone wants to buy a performance car/bike and not drive it fast on the road?
They probably like the way it looks and the spec, for most people that's enough reason for anything to do with cars.
I say good on them - more people buying performance cars is a good thing. More supply for people like us who enjoy driving.

Very common in my neck of the woods. Many ladies here way out of their depth. Watched in shear amazement as 'posh' lady attempted to park her Maserati in Sainsbury. Not a bloody clue.
Would that be a foxy blonde lady at Tollgate Sainsbury in a Granturismo by any chance?bhstewie said:
I remember a Honda dealer once telling me that the reason you see a lot of older people in things like Type R's is that often they literally go into the showroom and ask for the "top of the range" model which, with most marques, tends to be the fastest.
Surely the dealer has been a bit negligent there then? The top-of-the-range but not Type-R version would probably be a more comfortable fit for more people. Not sure what age has got to do with being/not being a petrolhead either (a lot of people assuming that anyone over 50 isn't a petrolhead - I would guess that the guy with the Escort RS Cosworth and Fiat barchetta probably is, even if he doesn't drive like a boy racer/rally driver.white_goodman said:

Aside from driving below the speed limit, how on Earth would you know whether or not the guy is or isn't a petrol head in most driving? Following someone down a B road, sure, but everyone drives pretty much the same in about 80 per cent of traffic conditions.

Quite.A laughable proposition.
My old boss. I knew him for years before I worked for him and I knew he'd had a load of tasty cars - he was an early Cerbera customer as one example.
Since then he's had several 911s, an Aston, a supercharged Range Sport, a Jag XKR and all sorts of other stuff, yet he has absolutely no idea about cars. I'm not kidding, he doesn't know which wheels are driven or the engine sizes on most of the stuff he's had.
