Surely most drivers do use the motorway at busy times or they wouldn't be busy? My mrs stays away from the inside lane do to the number of accidents she sees where foreign plated hgv's are involved pulling out into people
Surely your mrs would be safer in the inside lane then so lorries can't pull out into her?

Most of my M-way driving is now on the M4 J15-13, having shortened my commute last year to remove the M25 and M23. I'm a frequent user of the L1-L3-L1 manouvre; on the M25 I used to L1-L4-L1 but now just stay in L1.

As for moving over to let faster traffic past, I will do this as soon as possible providing I don't compromise my own safety gap in front, coz I don't like getting stuck behind slower traffic any more than you do. I can see that your Audi headlights work; smile and wave boys, smile and wave.

My personal bugbear is the satnav in the middle of the windscreen on it's 'day' setting. I must see this several times EVERY Sunday night. Aside from the fact that a 4" square of windscreen obscured is a blatant MOT safety fail, does having a bright light not kinda put you off? IMHO Traffic Wombles should be empowered to pull and ticket for C&U fails, i.e. bulbs blown or foglights on 3 days after the last reported fog.

Ignorance of why it's a big deal to anyone else where they drive
OR
fear of changing lanes so stay where they have to do it the least.

Either way, I quite enjoy sailing beneath them like a submarine. Most stay 'afloat', oblivious. Sometimes you can 'sink' one and they fall down to the seabed (or lane 1 as other people call it) hehe

It's a sad day when members of PH try to justify why middle lane hogging is ok frown

So now we know why they do it
That isn't why he does it, it's just his justification for it. The real reason why he does it is because he's a lazy, selfish fking moron who needs to be fired out of a mile high cannon aimed at the heart of the sun.
I like this solution.

UK motorway driving is painful, I never realised how bad it was until I spent time in Germany where a concept known as lane discipline exists.

Equally I cringe watching the guy who takes everything as written with regards to Lane discipline.

That is the guy who's doing 85-90mph overtaking then moving straight to the inside lane, despite the fact there is a Truck or Rover 75 only 200-300 yards ahead because it's the right thing to do. 15 seconds later he's out again. Think about it look ahead. Yes he might have a pistonheads sticker, he might think he's doing the right thing but In my eyes that guy is a T*T too.

It's the outside lane hoggers that really piss me off.

If pulling in left after an overtake would result in you pulling out again in less than 3 seconds, don't bother.

Occasionally I do it to make the point to the muppet in the middle lane that he should be using lane 1.

Otherwise, if I am going to catch up with L1 traffic in less than 10 seconds I stay in the overtaking lane.

So five pages in and clearly the 'law' change to clamp down on the middle lane Tw.TS is having no influence on those who seem to think they know better. . . .Well what a surprise.

In normal circumstances 15 seconds is enough to let a vehicle behind go past so it'd right to move back to the inside. Otherwise it's lane hogging for over a quarter of a mile.

The law change was a smokescreen to bring in £100 fines for minor speeding offences.

Until detection is automated somehow it won't be seriously policed.

Yeah of course, goes without saying know what's going on around you. Especially who is creeping up on you.

Equally if you're doing 85mph-90mph don't expect middle lane guy to move over for you. Even worse don't get angry and try and "teach the middle lane hoggers a lesson" as somebody here has demonstrated. All they'll see is a spare lane to their right that you can use.

And potentially one or two spare/empty lanes to their left??

Kind-off logical, if there is just the one car, but not when there is a whole load of cars trying to match speeds and join the one single lane to pass you on the right - which IS the scenario that the rules try to avoid.

He'd be a fundamentalist. Or a lane disciple.
