RE: Skoda Octavia vRS: PH Carpool
Discussion
Good to see one of these featured in Carpool. I've had mine for 7years, still struggling to find a good all round replacement. Absolutely great family car, as others mentioned there is nothing specific that it does amazingly well but, crucially , there is nothing it does badly.
I've considered Audi S4, BMW 328/335 as replacements but they all have less boot space and would be way more expensive to buy and run. Even the new Octy vRS is now unnecessarily big and loads more expensive. Could be a great buy if Skoda offer it VAT free though.

Had a Mk1 for 5 years until recently. Paid 7k in 2008 with 42k, xenons, parking sensors, esp and cruise and a revo stage 1. Added 90k to it and remains the best all rounder I ever had. Prefer it to a MK2 tbh after my brother had 2 with problems.

Not a plug ,as I have no association with this indie. But I notice a mention of Bedford and possibly other places nearby. Any serious Skoda owner needs to hop over to Briskoda.net and look for one of the sponsors with unit 18 in the name. It's in Old Wolverton, near Milton Keynes. Owner and tech both highly trained VAG techs.
I picked up an '07 80k mile vRS TDi back at the beginning of the summer as we needed extra doors for an expanding family.
Space wise it's fantastic, handles well and frugal on my 60mile round trip commute.
My only real gripe is the turbo lag - although used to it now, it nearly caught me out a couple of times in traffic.
Definitely a PH worthy family motor.

If I saw one of these coming up behind me quite quick I would assume that it was the fuzz. Do any owners notice people moving out of the way in the vRS?
I'm not trolling and I don't mean to hurt (or improve depending on your view) the vRS' image by suggesting they all look like police cars, it was simply out of curiosity. I guess it would be more believable if you stuck loads of sat navs and cameras on the windscreen

Yes.Mine's a white estate and i run it with roof bars fitted 99% of the time. Yes people do get out of the way but more notable is when i'm cruising just below the speed limit in the nearside lane on a fast dual carraigeway - lots of fast stuff seems to jump on the brakes and crawl past slowly..

Some people still act as if you're driving an unmarked police car but it's rarer now my car's getting older. I have to say that I'd rather they didn't; for example, they often end up boxing you in while hovering next to you, wondering if you'll arrest them for overtaking at 73mph.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
