Too many original Minis. sniff. Imagine many of the 300 odd 3 series were E30s too... what a misguided policy. maddrinkfrown

I can't believe they were still making Maestros at 'R' plate. As a pre-driving teen I suffered two of those ('C' plate and a terrible N/A diesel 'G' plate) courtesy of my car-illiterate Dad.

Wonder how many of the '09' plate Hyundai i10's are worth scrappage trade in now? Perhaps the government should reverse the scheme and offer basket-case old Triumphs and Jags in exchange for a five-year-old Korean...?
Pretty certain the Maestro was made upto 2001. Albeit using the remains of bits left over and CKD kits. I think MG finished making them in 1995. May be wrong though.

It would be a sadder list to see what some of that stuff was actually traded in against.

Yup. All I can see it done was boost the Korean motor trade and remove pre-tax hike models off the road.

Think this is a humungus fk up? Just wait and see if Boris gets his way with Diesels.

Anyhow, where are they all? Still sitting on that runway?

A few that made me cry

Ford Escort Mexico
Triumph TR8

Lancia Delta Integrale 16v
Daimler Double 6

Ford P100
Alfa 145 Cloverleaf

The Mexico would have been work £5000 even if it was just a pile of rust. The idea of a quick £2000 was a strong pull for some people.
Ford made an Escort MKVI Mexico special edition - basically an L with a sticker on the back not even based on the Si or RS2000; worth no more than the L it was based on I assume, so £2000.00 looks great value for it and not the loss to the motoring world you may think.

Every single car we had on scrappage was a nail. Not a nice example amongst them.

We had a Porsche 924 taken in. Didn't even have any door cards, rust everywhere..

I remember a Punto with no brakes at all, and my mates MR2 which blew it's engine 200 meters from the dealership!

It is a shame, I'm sure quite a lot of these old Rovers and SAABS would have been 1 gadgey owner.
Waxed every weekend, FSH, packet of Werther's on the parcel shelf.

An MOT doesn't really represent condition though.

You could have failing shocks, worn piston rings, knackered camshafts, broken gearbox bearings and it could still pass an MOT.

My guess is that the ones that got scrapped were near dead anyway, and only five figures could have saved them.

Furious! The road is full of the shocking awfully Hyundai i10 (and other equivalent death-traps) sh*t boxes clogging up the middle lane... I've always called them scrappage scheme specials,I guess I was right! Whilst it generate a boost for the industry, the concept was an environmental one... apparently... what is a dealer going to do? It's obvious many cars scrapped were worth far more than £ 2000! It's a stinking swizz.

Sad to see. There's a Peugeot 104 ZL in that list, and I don't think any are left now at all. Also plenty 205 GTIs, CTIs and a few rallyes.

Of the more likely rotten things there were 12 Yugos scrapped. Can't be many more left at all but I'm sure there's enthusiasts for them somewhere.

My rag top 16V Polo is on that list, please no one cry for that it was the worst and most unreliable car I've ever owned! But loosing some of those cars is a real shame. People weren't doing it for the cash, it was very hard to realise the cash value, I got the £2k off a Mini Cooper which I sold after a few months and only managed to realise about £1400 (still more than the awful Polo was worth).

Perhaps somewhere there was a tax dodge against some kind of punitive charges if it was converted into a commercial vehicle ???

What could potentially be the most valuable car on that list? lets assume the car has an MOT (which they all would have anyway) and is sold at the bottom end of its market/price range.
