I know there's no excuse for a faulty DVLA system but why do so many people leave it to the last bloody minute? It's not as though they didn't know weeks in advance it needed doing.

I bought a new van 3 months ago, the tax disc was supposed to arrive "In a couple of days", it didn't.
Chased it after a few weeks but Peugeot had made a pigs ear of the paperwork and it eventually arrived a couple of days ago, I didn't bother putting it on.
I drive around in London all day under the watchful eye of a zillion cameras and haven't had the slightest interest fom the police for not displaying it during all that time.
You don't really know what ANPR means, do you?
I think his point was that showing a tax disc was pretty pointless anyway.
Thank you Ross.
So many people on PH desperate to feel superior these days.

All of my tax discs for my bike are in fantastic condition, safely on the shelf in the garage. I blame the eight, yes EIGHT allen bolts on the poxy tax disc holder that fortunately will now be resigned to the bin.

Whilst I understand that, what do you guys do when an unexpected bill rears it's ugly head?

I'm not trying to be all high and mighty PH director, but if your financials really are that tight, what happens in that instance?

How long before tax discs actually disappear? I'm thinking a lot of people will just forget/not care/not even notice and they'll display the old disc, probably long after it's expiry.

How many people know about it? I only know because it popped up on here.

I wonder how many prosecutions or people reported will be attempted before the error is seen?

Thinking about it, what about those living in remote parts, especially the mature drivers who may not have a computer skills, or a compiter for that matter, how do they renew it.

My brother is a part time bus driver in Weymouth, and 71, he doesnt have a computer, never used one.

The same way he does now presumably - at a post office or by phone.

If the service ever comes back up!

I know there was some discussion of emergency Rich Tea transportation, but I've opted for the chocolate Digestive upgrade instead this morning.

First thoughts - a Digestive doesn't flex in the same way as a tax disc, so expect a broken biscuit upon removal. And crumbs, lots of crumbs.

Decided to pay a shed load of money for diddly squat at lunchtime yesterday, as I thought that there maybe a 'lot' of people leaving it to the last second to buy theres last night. Seems it was a good idea. Took me two minutes to be down £220.
Also, not sure on the chocolate digestive. Looks great, but wait for the sun to come out, you'll need a straw for the chocolate in the bottom of the holder........
Nearly broke the screen getting the alloy holder out of one car. Been there 5 years. both cars look better, although will seem weird with nothing there for a while.

Might not work quite so well if the sun comes out.

Removed mine last night, the sticky pads took some shifting on the richbrook holder.

It looks much better, but it makes my parking permit for work stick out like a sore thumb now. frown

Going to work today and didn't notice a single car/truck (out of 100-odd) which had removed the tax disc. tongue out

(yeah I know I should be focusing on the road/they might not had time/bothered to remove it etc. etc.)

Why are people focusing on "looks better"? Is it some excuse to say I told you so? Do they not realise that the driver behind the wheel with a visage like a robbers horse is not doing the "looks" department any favours despite the belief of the driver that they are gods gift?
