Mine must be a picky bugger, issued a fail, moved the sticker and issued a pass.

On the radio news they said that today "there has been unprecedented demand on the DVLA servers to renew tax and they are having trouble"
Its a government department.

Worse than that its the DVLA. Nobody actually expected it to work faultlessly today did they. rofl

You can guarantee that loads of them stood around looking at the servers,
"Not my job. We're going to have to a consultant in to fix that. Go and find the most expensive one we can find. Is that the kettle? Milk with two please,"

So now, instead of a bobby walking down the street and looking at 10 vehicles to see if they are taxed, he would have to stop and PNC check every single one of them 10 vehicles.

Find me a bobby who will bother doing this.

You can guarantee people not paying tax will soar as a result of this.

I know there's no excuse for a faulty DVLA system but why do so many people leave it to the last bloody minute? It's not as though they didn't know weeks in advance it needed doing.
As already said, today is payday for loads of folks. Life is tight
Whilst I understand that, what do you guys do when an unexpected bill rears it's ugly head?

I'm not trying to be all high and mighty PH director, but if your financials really are that tight, what happens in that instance?
Loads & loads & loads of people are in that boat

Why? I can't understand why anymore people would need tax today as compared to another day/month... or are there a large number of deeply stupid people trying to get tax because they think the remaining tax on their disc is no longer valid? :-)

I have yet to remove my discs, I am slightly concerned the local Police here and ANPR operators are sufficiently stupid to not know about the changes either... Getting a wrongly issued fine removed is probably a massive hassle.
I think they didn't bank on the motor trade requirement for checking whether a car is taxed. The new 'no visible disc' system requires every garage in the entire country to check every single car that enters the building before we can test it or drive it on the road. The new check system was down about a minute after we all arrived at work.

I know there was some discussion of emergency Rich Tea transportation, but I've opted for the chocolate Digestive upgrade instead this morning.

First thoughts - a Digestive doesn't flex in the same way as a tax disc, so expect a broken biscuit upon removal. And crumbs, lots of crumbs.
Interesting.
I'm considering a poverty spec Hobnob, although I think the crumbage potential may prove unworkable.
Probably less likely to break on removal though due to the higher butter content over the equivalent Rich Tea/Digestive option.

No no no. The biscuit will go off in no time and it will be no good for dunking. Wrap it up, cling film. Perhaps a biscuit packet sized holder scratchchin

I don't remember being consulted on this frown

How do I inform peasants that I pay £485 a year to use the road and therefore have more right to it than they do?
I noticed a few different people looking at the tax disc on my car, when I looked at it myself I realised the cost is written on it, didn't know that before.

I have never seen a bobby walking down my street or any street around here,
so there is no change.

Anyone that's not paid road tax will be automatically sent a fine by the DVLA these days, so it's got nothing to do with the police anyway.

Same here, as I can't see any point in removing it as it's never hurt anyone.

But traffic wardens do, and they have the power to clamp untaxed car, no?
