I've gone for the retro look now it's legal to display it! Sadly not the original one, the paperworks not that complete.
.
When has it ever been illegal to display 'retro' tax discs?

I have been doing it on my historic bus (with triple disc holder) for 15 years!

I know there was some discussion of emergency Rich Tea transportation, but I've opted for the chocolate Digestive upgrade instead this morning.

First thoughts - a Digestive doesn't flex in the same way as a tax disc, so expect a broken biscuit upon removal. And crumbs, lots of crumbs.

I've never been able to take the current disc out and use the holder! Hence why you have had to have at least 2 for the last 15 years!

I've replaced mine with this (mine was a beer mat, but you get the idea).

How the fk did you get it that round. Mine always looked like jagged half ripped shredded bits of paper.

By not cutting it out, perhaps?

I know there's no excuse for a faulty DVLA system but why do so many people leave it to the last bloody minute? It's not as though they didn't know weeks in advance it needed doing.
As already said, today is payday for loads of folks. Life is tight
Whilst I understand that, what do you guys do when an unexpected bill rears it's ugly head?

I'm not trying to be all high and mighty PH director, but if your financials really are that tight, what happens in that instance?
Loads & loads & loads of people are in that boat
With respect, that's not answering my question!

I've gone for the retro look too - I've put these in mine and the OHs car. They are original, but I know I have some from the 1980s. Somewhere!

Nice! I prefer the style, probably because I'm bored of the current (well, what was the current) style.

Love to see a pic of the 80's disc...

so far 0 people have commented on my new tax disc, not even SWMBO who still thinks its illegal but I couldnt be bothered with explaining that it wasnt.

Incidentally - my 1996 tax disc ^ up there ^ was for a J reg MR2 GT, 2.0 16V and was 135 quid for a year.
Tax, unless you're taxing something mental is in real terms a lot cheaper nowadays.

No the disc is obsolete, perhaps we can have some fun with something which looks like something we used to have to display, I guess this isn't forgery now:

I would make an offer of 20p on the £1500 one, but if he accepted, it would cost me £3 with postage!

Not worth the risk!

I'm going to leave mine on. It's at least a visual reminder of the month to re-tax! (or else reliant on a reminder in the post?)
I took my car for a service a couple for weeks ago and when I picked it up the mechanic said he didn't want to leave the car on the street as the tax was 5 months out of date. FFS how could I forget that, when I looked in the glove box there was the new disc. It had made it to the car but not onto the 'screen.

So no, leaving the old disc on the 'screen wont act as a reminder to me.

I think most people won't bother removing them until it runs out. I keep thinking I probably should remove it, but then I'll be creating more bother for myself as I'll have to remove the sticky crap left behind and I'm feeling lazy.

If anyone would like to come and sort out my tax disc / sticky crap situation, I'll gladly let you keep the old holder, and to really sweeten the deal I'll even offer a couple of biscuits and a brew.

Surely if you wanted a 'last ever tax disc' you'd have sorned your car and re-taxed it last month...rather cheaper than £1500

I think it's because it's not a requirement to remove them, people dont care about it, it's only relevant when renewal time comes around

Because this is at least its value to a collector?

May well go higher.
