I have never seen a bobby walking down my street or any street around here,
so there is no change.

Anyone that's not paid road tax will be automatically sent a fine by the DVLA these days, so it's got nothing to do with the police anyway.
How are they going to know if you've paid when you just declare it as Sorn and drive around as normal.

Is rhe bobby on the beat bothered. Did rhey check them last week? Probably not.

However an app on their phone may become the norm, who knows.

I think traffic police cars have ANPR cameras which flag up any untaxed/uninsured cars to the driver in real-time. It wouldn't be beyond the wit of man to produce a similar hand-held thing.

One of my cars' plates is slightly dodgy spaced. I've been stopped for it twice, and both times the police have commented how good it was, and complimented it, and let me go without charge.

That time has I think come to an end. Just about. ANPR will give me 3 automatic points. Glad to say no ANPR here yet!

Still, fun over methinks.

I have my car parking pass in there now instead of leaving it on the dashboard.
Seen quite a few cars with them removed.

Checked the car park as I walked into work this morning. Every single car except mine still had them. Mind you, four were out of date by a month or more (one was June).

When has it ever been illegal to display 'retro' tax discs?

I have been doing it on my historic bus (with triple disc holder) for 15 years!
Some years back I got harangued by a traffic warden. I had been at a show and always have the original and the current disc in the same holder, using the original when appropriate but swapping to the original for authenticity. He just couldn't get it, and was ranting on about how much back tax I had to pay. I'll not post the photo again - it's on page one - but jobsworth to the core was our man.

I may have one of the last discs issued... 26th September 2014. I'll keep it in its unperforated glory!

Sell on overseas with a mark up perhaps, or were we the only idiots with a tax disc in the first place?

Trouble is with this new system is that it does not stop people dumping cars down a side street untaxed and uninsured. In the good old days Joe Public would notice that the car tax is a few months out of date and inform the police. To me all this new idea just makes the situation worse. Its also handy now for people to swap reg plates and dump.

I applied for a 12 month disk on the 9th September and never received one.
I've checked "online" and I am taxed, so I missed out on my last ever one.

My tax disc holder served a dual purpose. According to Parking Eye it was sufficient to form a contract so I didn't worry about being sued by passengers if something went wrong.

Need a rethink now frown
