Great timing as I'm trying to tax a car right now and the DVLA site is epically slow.

A sign of things to come?

I bought a new van 3 months ago, the tax disc was supposed to arrive "In a couple of days", it didn't.
Chased it after a few weeks but Peugeot had made a pigs ear of the paperwork and it eventually arrived a couple of days ago, I didn't bother putting it on.
I drive around in London all day under the watchful eye of a zillion cameras and haven't had the slightest interest fom the police for not displaying it during all that time.
You don't really know what ANPR means, do you?

I think his point was that showing a tax disc was pretty pointless anyway.

Did mine last night. Looks much cleaner smile

Lol you do realise its from the 1/10 not 30/9 so if you don't put it back and get caught today points and fine coming to you...
Didn't put it back, didn't get caught and didn't get a fine. Probably because I didn't use the car today, hence removing it yesterday...

I'm going to leave mine on. It's at least a visual reminder of the month to re-tax! (or else reliant on a reminder in the post?)

Is anyone else going leave the holder, and buy an age-appropriate replica disc?
I'd like a 2001 disc for my X reg car. Where do I get one? I still have the original for my 2013 car. In the past when I've had new cars I kept all the discs. I had an old MG ZT-T which had all its discs all ten of them

No pics but I took mine off of the Box this afternoon, it does look better from a few paces, if you squint a bit. The main issue now is that I'd made an effort to place the aftermarket DAB antenna almost perfectly in line with the edge of the tax disc holder (rendering it virtually invisible) and with the tax disc holder gone it really stands out. frown) I'm tempted to stick it back on as I believe it was the original one from when the car was new (1997). eek

Am I alone in thinking that most of the changes seem perfectly thought out in order to help widespread public acceptance of VED rate increases? (Especially on anything remotely interesting/fast/fun, with most cars fitting any of these descriptions already falling foul of punitive taxes.) The seemingly generous offer of "pay monthly @ a 5% premium rather than six monthly @ a 10% premium" rings alarm bells.

After all, a 10% increase on £500 a year makes headlines but a 10% increase on £43.75 a month is well within many households reach to absorb & isn't much more than a pint a month in some parts of the country.

I'll be leaving mine in for old times sake.

N.B only vehicles taxed from 1/10/14 do not need to display a tax disc. If you have a valid tax disc up to 30/09/15 you still need to display it.

Well that's how I read it.
From the DVLA website

From 1 October 2014, the paper tax disc will no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle. If you have a tax disc with any months left to run after this date, then it can be removed from the vehicle and destroyed.
Arrr well wrong again .

Amazing. The tax disc holder on my Fireblade disassembled itself whilst I was riding home from work. No idea where it ended up.

TIMING, HUH?
Indeed, the tax disc blew away on my motorbike recently. Oh well.
scratchchin

Took the (rather solid) tax disc holder off my bike tonight

Good job too - I noticed the lower bolt on the caliper (not attached to the holder) was loose! Wouldn't want that to come out while braking from high speed* eek

My Tax disc is still valid till the end of November... can I just remove the disc now or does it have to stay in the screen for another 2 months as it's still valid?

Well trying to tax two cars for the morning and neither the new system or the old system work.

Maybe I should look for the cheque book and get an envelope and stamp!!!!!!

Took my tax disc holders out of my cars earlier. Strangely enough the discs themselves fit perfectly in my cupholders and are now employed as coasters.
