good innit. End of the month, need new tax as obviously do zillions of other folks, the www.taxdisc.service.gov.uk keeps crashing / hanging. Can't buy tax.

Bonus for siemens or whichever lucky contractor designed the system.

You, and they, could have done it a few days ago. No law says you have to wait until the last minute.

Glad I did mine yesterday! And to the person who posted about doing it early, that's beside the point. If they want vehicles to be taxed, they should design software that can cope with a last minute rush!

Perhaps I hadn't got paid, and thus couldn't afford it? Not unusual for us poorer types. Thanks for the help though smile

Some transactions cannot be done ahead - since they have made the ability to buy tax using the new keeper details unavailable (presumably until tomorrow) I have no choice but to try tomorrow. Any sane person could've predicted this - and many of us did.

I think you can still do it at the post office, you won't get the disc tho.

What gets me is if you sell you car after the 1st October you automatically get the full valid months refunded, then the buyer of the vehicle has to tax it from the start of the month again.

Win,win for DVLA, rip off Britain.

It just doesn't work like that. If they spent a massive amount of money renting extra server and database capacity to cope with all the month-end last minuters then they'd get flak for wasting money as well. Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

If they hadn't signed stupid supply contracts, renting extra capacity short term wouldn't be expensive.
