Website still down, but the idea of calling the DVLA and paying 10p/min for the privilege is unappealing.

Just called from my deskphone, thinking it would be a 2 minute call.... it's a touchtone service and took about 6 mins to get my car taxed. Not the end of the world, but far from ideal.

This "service" is a fking joke.

Tried online last night and this morning, and now given up on that, so tried to renew over the phone. Unfortunately, this is not possible as their systems are "unavailable for essential maintenance".

You, and they, could have done it a few days ago. No law says you have to wait until the last minute.
Irrelevant. If a service is advertised then it should word as stated, especially when peoples' legal obligations rely on it.

How would you feel if your car ran out of fuel with the guage stating you still had half a tank? Same issue - you can't be expected to prepare for that, can you?

According to http://www.saynoto0870.com/ anyway. It's meant to cost the same as a local rate number.

It just doesn't work like that. If they spent a massive amount of money renting extra server and database capacity to cope with all the month-end last minuters then they'd get flak for wasting money as well. Damned if you do, damned if you don't...
They demand you use it. It's not unreasonable to expect it to work.

My tax runs out end of November, does this mean I still have to display the disk until then or can I remove it?

Boobles, you can remove it.

The site is throwing hissy fits at me now. It's st if it can't handle the requests.I've been trying since the morning too.

It'll take my details, display the page with my cars information, ask me to click on continue to progress... But wait, there's no continue button.

Refresh the page and try again? Nope.

Open a new tab? Nope.

Try a completely different PC? Nope.

I'm now at work and all I have is a blank screen on the work PC. The site is toilet.

I'm struggling with the site too.

Think I'll take advantage of the 2 week grace period - they might have sorted their act out by then

Does the grace period still apply for online purchases? Thought it would be eliminated as there is no postage of the disc etc.
