I agree it's a real shame that none of the great 205 GTI colours have appeared.

As a retro Pug GTI obsessive, a few drives in the standard 208 GTI really did surprise me. It was fast, supple (rare in this segment)and although it looked a little bland is a fine looking car in my eyes. I know someone who has ordered one of these 30ths and I'm looking forward to seeing it when it arrives.

Having driven the Fiesta ST, most will agree it is the better car to blast around in especially on track, I accept, but the 208 30th would be the one for me if I wanted a new hot hatch. I have a friend/Pug guru who has a standard 208 GTI fettled to 253bhp and it flies. Just a pity this 30th does not have a bit more poke.

I'm just hoping as mentioned that the spec is considered perhaps for a 208R in a few months time. I'd love one in Cherry red or Miami blue with silver wheels and that spec.

One thing is for sure in my view - these 100 cars will be cherished in 20 years time just as many 205/309 GTIs are now.

The advert is completely OTT but it made me chuckle a little. Reminds me of 'Die Another Day'.
The car is probably decent as it's a tweaked version of an already quite good hot hatch, with a similar approach to the RCZ R. It seems like the best option if you don't want a dual clutch or you want an LSD. It's much more expensive than a Fiesta ST so I guess only a few Peugeot loving nutters, sorry I meant enthusiasts, will buy one. biggrin

I still don't like the two tone paint scheme but some may love it as it makes the car stand out. For me I think two tone only works top to bottom not front to back. Also I wonder if there's enough interest in this whether Peugeot will do a slightly cheaper 208 'R' as a normal model, just like the RCZ-R? Perhaps that's already in their plan.
This car reminds me of the Citroen DS3 Racing, but it's seems better and costs less.

Real killer for me is the ridiculous steering wheel/instruments problem.

Idiotic, epic fail.
I really like the sound of this but my problem is this.

Also the normal 208 has that awful 'kickdown' on the throttle even on a manual. You'd imagine that would go along with the really long gear throw?

Won't be getting one, but would love if this lived up to its name and proved to be pretty special.

Great Advert shame about the paintjob..........very nasty,
I loved the original 205 GTi as I worked at a peugoet dealer when the first 1.9's came out and they were so quick
always extra road tests required smile
not sure the new car will bring the grin to your face like it did 30 years ago

maybe will have to give one a try, but would never spend that on a hot hatch

I really like the advert , about time we had a decent car advert on tv !
can't stand the stupid go fun yourself adverts that say nothing about a car except you can hide in them at a fast food drive through ???
also stupid bmw ads where you are so special go reward yourself with a car blah blah !
an advert where the car is gunned along a road ,ice mountain ... flicking the fingers ala steve mcqueen at a chopper pilot ....childish yes ..but fun !

Blame my advancing years, but it worries me that a film full of explosions, big planes, rockets and guns, speeded-up silliness is still considered a "good ad" for a car...

What's the message here? Who is this aimed at?

I'm confused...

My take is the advert is OTT and fun because that's what Peugeot want the 208 Gti Anniversary to be seen as. I think the market is 40-somethings who want a modern take on the eighties hot hatches they wanted to own, or owned, as a 20-something.
The 208 Gti Anniversary is like car botox: It looks a bit weird but makes you feel a bit younger for a while. biggrin

220 lb/ft in a small hatch, with an LSD, manual gearbox and decent brakes, and still people are complaining?

Pay attention RenaultSport, this is what the Clio should have been.
Agreed.

But I still say the Mountune Fiesta is a better prospect - my girlfriend drives one and it is ace: quick, handles well, is great fun to punt down the local B roads and for day to day use it's comfortable enough, cheap to run and looks good in white.

Hmm.

Interesting car, vile paint.

Bide your time. I'm sure these "special edition modifications" will become more mainstream before too long and then you can have it without a silly paint scheme.

I laughed out loud during the advert though. I like the tongue in cheek humour and car adverts need more of that, ASA notwithstanding.
