..Or consider an Alpina B5 Touring estate. I have a LHD German import which does the cross continental blast just fine, whilst being able to keep up with a convoy of F360 Challenges along the French/Italian Riviera at 130mph cruise whilst the wife is sleeping in the passenger seat and the boot stuffed literally to the roof with stuff. Lets say that the ferrari lot were a tad irritated by not being able to shake off a boring looking (debadged) grey 5 series wagon...

Very nice, but its not a 5.0 V10 Turbo, so I think I'd still save some money* and opt for the previous generation, with its nutty arches.

  • Ok, maybe not saving on the fuel aspect!

EH? I can transport 2 mountain bikes internally in my 3series tourer and that's an sidard (inverse tardis ;-) by comparison!

Just a suggestion but isn't this cars' closest rival the CLS63 Shooting Brake? Or am I wrong?

Just how much money would you need to earn to consider one of these? Surely it only appeals to, or makes sense to the people that already have £300k of other metal sitting on their drive?
Depends on general outgoings. A family member of mine owns a new shape BMW M6 coupe which costs a similar amount I guess. He's on around 170k per year but also has a big mortgage and goes on expensive holidays etc. I reckon if you didn't have a big house etc then you could do this with under 100k per year.

Does not compute. Why on earth would anyone buy a car based on its ability to stuff a couple of filthy mountain bikes inside? £150 buys a roof rack made for the job - fits on any car!
It's more difficult to nick them when they're INSIDE the car and it's parked at the Dover Travelodge waiting for the next day's crossing. VOE.

think you've missed the point there - for an everyday car to take the kids to school, camera gear to work, bikes off at the weekend etc etc... CH is saying the C7 RS6 is best in class/all-rounder.

he is not saying its the best car ever nor better than a sports car...

of course what CH is probably not aware of, is that you can't bloody get one!! as Audi seem unable to manage their league times for components or bother to let people know when the order book is full given facelift versions.

Lovely car! I had a go in a S6 last friday. That was already pretty bonkers in my book, can't imagine what an RS6 will do.

WRT the iPhone cable, there is a iPhone 5 cable avaiblabe. I had one in my rental Golf VII, so if Audi doesn't have one, check at your VW dealer. Or... get a generic USB cable so you can use the normal charging cable for your iPhone.

Its appauling that a £100k car media interface doesn't support beyond an Iphone 4 - that annoyed me on a £15K skoda! It galled me slightly to buy a £3.00 adaptor from Amazon, but it soved the problem.

It sound like the Skoda's blue tooth is better than the Audi one - never had any issues so glad I added the option.

It would have been nice for a few lines comparing it to his B8 S4 Avant... since I've just bought one a few weeks ago after much deliberation (almost bought a 2.0Tdi at one stage). Yep, Chris' S4 tune vs RS4 vid swung me!
So far the S4 is epic... performance, frugality, practicality, sleeper looks, doppelkuplungs and 2nd top road tax band.
Couldn't think of a better all round family used car smile

On the subject of the OTR price, I don't think many would fork out a wad of cash like that on a car - more likely a PCP deal with a deposit and reasonable monthlies to fight off the astronomical depreciation!
Better off to buy a 1-2yr car if outright ownership was a must.

Great Car, personally I just could not live with loosing that amount of money come trade In but I fully understand that to some people that is not issue.

Not sure if it's the same but the Bang and Olufsen stereo upgrade for the bmw M6 costs a similar amount IIRC and it's easily the best stereo in any car I've ever heard. It's mega. Worth it imo if you can afford it.

it's pretty nuts to think you'd have to save £1,000 a month for 8 and a half years to buy this estate outright
Don't worry, it'll come back to meet you before the 8.5 years are up.

My kind of tale, this. I do desire a fast Q-car and Alpinas fit the bill rather well.

On side note, "Debadging: £0". If I am ever in a position where I am choosing this option on a car I will demand money back. If they're going back into their revenue stream I want the benefit, thank you!
