Sorry to go off topic a bit, but when I read stories like this, it always makes me wonder why WE haven't got one of these anymore?
I went to the N.E.C. shows, from the late '70s, to the late '80s, and remember Earl's Court before that. Time was when the 'Birmingham Show' stood for just as much as Detroit, Paris, Frankfurt or Geneva.
Then the S.M.M.T. fell out with the N.E.C.. Simultaneously, the 'Green' brigade got to work, saying that, "......we don't need anachronistic motor shows anymore.....", and were somewhat believed at the time????
Surprisingly, cars are still here, and their sad predictions, (obviously unheard by Paris and Frankfurt), didn't come to pass. Nevertheless, our show moved to London, and was 'Top Gear-ized' by those pr!cks.
Now, well nothing to speak of. Everything else survived the dark days of the late '90s - early noughties, even 'car-hating' Geneva!
Time to reinstate the British Motor Show............. at the N.E.C.! IMHO.
