RE: Lamborghini Asterion LPI910-4 revealed
Discussion
My first thought when I saw the pics was, "Miura". It doesn't look exactly like a Miura (as that concept from a few years back did), but it reminds me of it. When you think about it, this may be the most shocking thing Lambo have done in decades. The Countach was stunning because it was a shape so exotic, so wild, that it looked more like a space ship than what cars looked like at the time. Pretty much every car they've made since then is a variation on that shape. The Diablo was derivative of the Countach, the Murcielago of the Diablo. So, by rediscovering that cars can have curves (that thing the Italians used to do so well), as opposed to just straight lines and angles, Lambo has defied our expectations, thus shocking us.
In addition, I'm of the opinion that Lambo's best looking designs (apart from the Miura) were their GT cars, the 350 and 400GT, Islero, and Espada.
I love it and hope it doesn't remain a one-off.
I think it looks particularly striking from this rear 3/4 angle:

That looks mega - I am seeing a bit of Miura and Stratos in the design.
I agree. That side profile is really something special. >>Or purr along in front-wheel drive full electric mode for up to 31 miles at speeds of up to 78mph, overall emissions pegged at 98g/km and fuel consumption 65.5mpg.<<
98 grams of CO2 and no road tax for a 900hp car. Brilliant.
I was wondering where the trend towards low emission cars, that are not really such, would end up. And this is it.
I am wondering how the government will react when it looses such a large proportion of the road tax revenues?
I noticed someone said 'new DeTomaso Pantera', that's exactly what this is. I've always loved the Pantera and a year or so ago I started floating around some ideas with the Pantera community for a new production version and what it might look like. My concept render ended up looking like this below. If you remove the headlights from the Asterion there is a lot in common.

Dear All,
I gave it a seven.
Why so low?
Unnecessary triumph of engineering over common sense.
In a drop dead gorgeous suit. (Interesting divergence of opinion on the looks).
By all means give it excessive power, it is a Lambo after all, but forget the hybrid stuff. All that extra weight and cost in what will be a niche within a niche market. It would only ever get produced/sold in tiny volumes. Even for a Lambo. It will never happen, not profitable and it will remain "one of the best looking concepts never to be built".
The body deserves better,
regards,
Jet

Yep, it looks cool but according to Exclamation Mark Central, aka Auto Express: "The seven-speed dual clutch gearbox is placed underneath the engine, freeing up space ... to house the ... battery pack."
Hmm, with the 'box underneath the V10, won't that mean a relatively high centre-of-gravity, which'll not be good for handling?
