goodbye PH and .....

opt1 - channel 4 show to rival top gear

opt2 - replaces Jeremy on Top gear if he doesn't heed BBC warnings ....doubt that would happen with present line up....they would all go
opt 1 - it will probably get ratings in the 100k range like fith gear now does

opt 2 - the worst idea ever, they already have an angry short guy, Harry Metcalf would be a far better choice for a clarkson replacement

Yep.

Chris, please stay away from TG. You'd only end up ruining your reputation, and in trouble after hurting (badly) the little one.

Chris released this statement on twitter this morning about his future plans:

The Welsh borders, 12 Oct 2014

January 2012 seems a long, long time ago. Back then I was told by people who didn't know much that a web car video should be less than three minutes long and that overtseer was unpopular. I think we proved them wrong and am grateful to YouTube for giving me the chance to destroy tyres that other people pay for.

I'm also excited to announce that I've started working on my next phase of tyre obliteration and will be launching something new very soon. I'll remain a close friend of the /DRIVE brand and involved in its future productions, but will be offering even more access to my content through the next phase of Chris Harris on Cars, which will launch its new YouTube channel, free to air, November 12.

Special thanks go to Neil Carey, my sidekick in so many adventures and, if he can still handle the general mentalness, the man who will work with me on this next phase. Of course the biggest thanks go to all the viewers who have supported my little show. I look forward to welcoming you to the next phase very soon.

Best

Chris

I love this, he hasn't got a choice, you speak as though he could waltz into the BBC and demand a job on one of if not their biggest shows they produce.

Good to see Chris understand: business is marketing and innovation.

Just as silly, even less people know who Harry is!! Clarkson does what he does because he is so famous.. does anyone here even watch top gear?

Had a feeling this was coming....there had been a distinct lack of content on Drive recently and if you look at Drive's most watched vid's there generally Chris's.

I guess if you can do video's that generate 1 million plus views it must be possible to generate some advertising income.

The people that are making out like a bandit are the car manufacturers. For the price of a new set of tyres and a couple of tanks of fuel they're getting a lot of "column inches".

I notice H Metcalfe esq is starting Harry's Garage too.

he wasn't famous original when he started on TG

and i still watch TG and mostly enjoy it a lot, but then i have the ability to identify it as a light hearted entertainment program about 3 blokes cocking about in cars, but then i also do not read the daily mail

if i want serious car stuff i watch petrolicious

Exactly my point, why would you choose Chris Harris or Harry to host an entertainment show?
He wasn't famous no, but he came up with the current format and had been on the previous incarnation of the show...he wasn't just plucked from relative obscurity and at the time, no offence to Harry who I really respect, he wasn't a bald 60 something car nerd with zero TV experience

If it hasn't been said already, PH should start trying to get Henry Catchpole on board. Great writer IMO, better than Monkey, though not perhaps as good on screen?
^ This, spot on. Both Bovington and Catchpole generally write better articles. Their stuff to camera is far less "me, me, me". Put bluntly they're a breath of fresh air after the majority of the stuff Harris has trotted out PH.

As for Harris or Harry M replacing Jezza

Jezza may frequently be a prize c*ck and a royal PITA, but he's blessed with something called charisma, the closest Harris will ever get to having charisma is ownership of one of these :

The news you're setting up your video channel makes the news you're leaving PH more supportable.

Keep us informed via Twitter please and I hope you'll continue to tell us things about your own cars, loved the vid about the 2cv.

I couldn't agree more. Chris sends me in to a trance every time. TG works to a proven format (that works well but too many silly things going on and not enough about cars) but I'd rather watch Mike Brewer & Ed China in Wheeler Dealers any day.

Don't know if this is old news as I didn't scan all the thread, but I've just got an email through saying he's joined the Goodwood R&R web/reporting team?

This. The money the Beeb make from TG syndication they wouldn't dare touch the format. It's a license to print money.
