I have left my empty "main dealers" holder in the screen now.

My BMW barge still has the disc in the screen.

I guess I'm nervous about removing them as they were issued during the period where it was an offence not to display them.

In the back of my head is a little voice sating..... "Knowing my luck I'll get done for failure to display current VED disc"!

I started peeling my holder off the windscreen, then realised that I couldn't be arsed dealing with the sticky mess it was leaving so put it back.

The offence of failing to display a vehicle licence ceased to exist at midnight 30 September 2014.

By change the tax on both our cars renewed on 1 October, so I removed the tax discs, holder and all, from the windscreens of both. We happened to be in Italy in one of them at the time and I wondered if I'd get any comment from customs at the Eurotunnel when we got back but not a word was said even though they had a good look over the car.

Still getting used to it - windscreen seems curiously empty!

My tax doesn't expire until 31-Dec-2014, but I removed the tax disc on the 1st October.

It made me feel naughty and rebellious.

it's a redundant bit of paper, just remove it. There are plenty of things in life more deserving of an emotional attachment.

Binned them all, looks much better and as anyone who owns a Defender can relate, the more you can see out of the letterbox front windscreen, the better smile

I've failed to peel mine off a couple of times now, I always had problems getting the minimalist holders to stick (round clear plastic film ones) but now when I've tried to remove it it's as if it's been stuck on with araldite!

Will have to get a knife on it at some point.

I saw this and thought it was a good idea - for the GF and Mum etc, obviously it would be far too uncool to put in my own car!

Mine flew out the window yesterday, when the dog stood on the button and opened it on the A30.

Job done.

Sorry for prolonged absence: the access control on the website locked me out and I have had to get a kindly PH techy to hit it with a spanner.

Yes, I have ordered a pair for the 944 but have not seen them yet. They will probably be at home waiting for me on Thursday, so I can put them on the car on Friday.

I lost mine back around April, so haven't had one for months. Was hoping with the new law on the horizon that the police wouldn't care and I didn't ever get stopped.

How do you lose a tax disc?! The coppers apparently stopped checking discs for validity years ago, with ANPR being the main detection mechanism from then. You'd need to be unlucky for them to spot you weren't displaying a disc, as you don't often see beat coppers these days and they'd have to walk by the passenger side of your vehicle, and they wouldn't be looking at tax discs anyway.

Roof down and rubbish tax disc holder. The classic combo.
