Who's gone to the trouble of removing their tax discs?
Discussion
For £450+ i want something in return for my cash (beyond the legal ability to drive on the road...)
I can understand why they did it - but it was a nice little reminder to renew the disc or chase the DVLA when the reminder "gets lost in the post".
It's funny how it's good enough for them.. "but we sent you a letter", but when you send it "it must have been lost". Arrrgh!

this tax disc thing has brought out some weirdness in people. Admittedly I am a bit finnicky about things, so there's no way I'd leave it in, but it sounds weird to me to hear some people say they can't be bothered to remove it. It's like un-peeling a pay and display ticket - how lazy are you exactly?! Also the "i've paid for it, so it's staying put" is just weird - it's not the disc you've paid for anymore, being the whole point. 80% of people don't even know anything about any of it anyway, the post office will have their heads done in explaining it to every fker that walks in the door over the next 12 months.
I have removed all of mine. I reckon that only about one in ten vehicles that I see on the roads are not showing tax discs.
I wonder if any of the unperforated docs on eBay are actually getting the high prices rumoured. I rather doubt it. I have one for a rare classic Lancia so I'll bung it on and see if anyone bites.

Anyone paying for a 'valid' tax disc is a complete idiot. I did however see something advertised for 'period' discs from the year your car was first registered. These were already available for the purposes of classics over 25 years old that don't require a disc (to my knowledge?) but why you'd want to do this on something far newer... not really sure.

The DVLA are giving a months grace to remove tax discs from windscreens, failure to do so by November 1st will result in a £100 surcharge.
ha didn't know that, well that's going to be ten times more of a revenue generator than this 'double tax' overlap thing everyone's kicking off about.Mine expired on 30th Sept and the holder the dealer supplied a year ago was peeling off the screen, so the whole thing came off as soon as the disc expired. Removing the remains of the holder left a load of crud stuck to the glass that was removed with windowlene & elbow grease.
Need to do the bike next, less of an impetus there as its disc is still valid & it's a screw-in holder, so will probably have to plug the hole in the fairing. Might just leave that till it expires.

A car that is 40 or more years old is exempt from tax, but when tax discs were required it still had to display a disc and renew the disc every year (the disc was free).Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
