I'd much prefer to see road tests too, I honestly couldn't care about track tests.
Must admit, I agree. A bit of track testing is always good to explore the limits of the car, but I find hearing about how a car feels on the road much more interesting (and generally more interesting to watch, especially in some of the more scenic locations). It's one of the reasons I've pretty much stopped watching the EVO channel lately - nothing but 'Track Battles' and 'Drag Battles'. Boring.

Yeah, it's the fact that it's exactly what I will be relating to should I ever get a car. It's one of the reasons I've pretty much stopped watching the EVO channel lately - nothing but 'Track Battles' and 'Drag Battles'. Boring.
That's where I think Top Gear in years gone by was always good when they did a road test with no stupid challenges.

i prefer long term tests as you get a much better idea what a car is like to live with and more about its foibles
I have to agree, I love the reviews with the cars on the roads, and find the track stuff a bit boring.
I would also love him to go back and review older cars, don't have to be really old, but be interesting to hear what his thoughts are on say a 2007 XKR vs the new F-Type, or the early E92 M3 some 8 years and a generation old, or how much fun an 02 996 is compared with buying a late 997 or 991.
We tend to get very caught up in the latest and greatest in this country, and forget that a car that was amazing an people were still buying new a couple of years ago, are still probably pretty amazing today.
I get that it is far easier to get a company to lend you, and pay for the tyres, on a new car they want promoting, but if the above was the format I would be happy to pay £5 or a month or so to subscribe to help pay for the tyres etc, and I am sure there would be plenty of owners who would be happy to lend their cars for a day or two for the video, good excuse to have a couple of days off work with some beers in the evening.
Think that could be a very good move for Mr. Harris, it seems to be the one area that is not really out there and the one area everyone is screaming for.
New cars tested on road but for how 'petrolheaded' they are and not whether you can get a 1 litre bottle of Coke in the door bin, and then some more affordable metal being looked at again to see if they are still worthy.

I agree I do generally prefer the road test to the track and drag races.
I did like the Motortrend drag race with all their cars of the year as it was interesting to see how some cars did. I thought the Fiesta ST was much closer to the Golf GTI with DSG plus the Alfa 4C was quicker than I expected.
Autocar 918 vs P1 vs Ducati race I was interested as well to see how these new hybrid supercars compared 0-200. Still can not believe how quick the bike was even above 150 and that it costs £65k!

This is brilliant news. As others have said, happy to pay (and did for two months), but asked for one month back and cancelled after this, pretty poorly managed by Drive, very little communication to fans other than 'gee sorry you can't pay us, here's another way'.
Does Chris have a day job? He must surely? If not, how could he do these videos and make money from them when its not the viewers paying him? That would be advertisement revenue wouldn't it? And doesn't that not work anymore? Hmm, many questions here.

My thoughts too. We were told that the advertising revenue was to low to pay for the shoots and subscriptions were required to cover costs. gizlaroc said:

Car magazines/youtube motoring channels should never underestimate the allure of the obtainable when it comes to car reviews, or older car reviews.
I would be far more interested in a review or group test where the cars are a little bit older and not just a distant pipe dream for the majority of us.
Chris' new channel along with the newly launched (but superb) Harry's Garage, my YouTube feed will be looking good once again I'd happily pay if that was the case also, I feel the content is worth it, however I refused outright to pay for Drive+ due to the shoddiness of the execution and that fact that they expected people to hand over money, just like that.
Good luck and I'll be waiting for the launch!

Good news.
For those that may have missed it, Harry's Garage is also worth a watch:

No one has yet worked out how to effectively gather revenue from this medium, I hope Chris cracks it.
If he cant, then broadcast journalism looks to an uncertain future where amateurs with go pro's publish an unfathomable amount of durge. We will have to wade through hours and hours of opinionated but uneducated morons to see some half decent content. Idiocracy could be a reality.
Chris, dont f&*k up the future of the humanity. OK?!
