Wheels good - rest = crashed into Halfords.

Dear lord, how is this debate STILL going?

The Celica was never proclaimed to be slow even if it was/is hard work. So why is the GT86 still being called it.
Because the Celica was of an era where competitors had similar 2.0 n/a engines and the average hatchback was a 1.6i petrol with 100 bhp or a 1.4 non-turbo diesel with about 80. Now the GT86 feels outgunned by the big slug of torque you get from a typical turbo-diesel Golf, level pegging more or less with mid-range Foci and the like and comprehensively swamped by the Golf Gti, Focus ST etc that are its competitors more or less in the eyes of the general public (who don't get it because it isn't playing Top Trumps with power figures). Relatively speaking, it is now slow. Absolutely, in the real world with other traffic, it isn't, but when has that ever mattered on PH, where 300bhp is the absolute minimum you need to go to the local shop to get some milk?

Having said that, if I ever have to ditch the Elise for a little more practicality, I will probably have one of these, with a bit of n/a tuning, and the wheels (but nothing else) from the Aero edition...

We've got one of the first Aero GT's in our showroom. It looks like this;

That body kit manages to make the old celica gts look subtle, and I always thought they looked a bit OTT.

My Mrs has put her money where her mouth is and ordered a brand new one. Due mid-July.

Gone for the GT86 with every option except for exterior graphics.

Got a FoC Silverstone experience / tuition day thrown in too smile

The PCP deposit contribution and a pretty reasonable dealer discout. The driving day too.

Wanted new as she wanted to spec it.

Blue, full heated leather, JBL sound system, top spec satnav, armrest lid cover, reversing sensors.

She's never had a RWD car and is transitioning from an Alfa GT V6 which we'll possibly / probably hold on to. A little nervous of the RWD aspect but loved the drive in the dry.

Hope you, I mean she, enjoys it wink

We are thinking of one, but it would have to be used.

I drove one at launch and loved it. I didn't push her at all. Drove it, loved it, ordered it (her company car allowance will all but cover the PCP payments).

We are both die hard Alfa fans but nothing they have, inc the 4c, appeals / fits our needs frown

they're actually very safe in the wet. There are two prominent buttons in the centre console that need pressing before setting off to have the most fun....
