A lot of the hoses i've seen dont reach over from above, they come from out of the pump itself.

Still PLENTY long enough to reach around the average car.

Sure, there are instances where you can't fill from the wrong side - a van, f'rinstance, where the filler is behind the front door - but for 90+ of vehicles in the average filling station? Dead easy. IF you engage brain. Which, of course, is the usual problem.
They're designed to retract automatically so you're going to struggle to not have them hit your bodywork.
Run it under the rear bumper, behind the wheels. It's plenty long enough.
Your paint is softer than rubber!??
Its softer than a heavy rubber hose that may well have grit on it from other people running it under their bumper, yes.

Give it a wipe with a paper towel then. Still got to be easier than gymnastics to try and hold it off the paintwork.

Never had a hose scratch any of my cars tbh

If you had been following the thread, rather than just extract posts to try to be smart arse, you would have seen back on page three i posted that picture in the context of making an observation

as has already been said, the hoses are quite long enough to reach the over your car. why some folks have not worked this out is quite sad.

And for the record, a nice heavy fuel filled thick rubber hose with the odd bit of grit on it WILL scratch your paint.

It doesn't matter which kind of pump it is, above, below, middle whatever.. I'd still fill up from the 'wrong' side irrespective, and I've still not had a car scratched as a result.

I only quoted that post as it was the most recent one in the thread regarding this aspect.

So you would happily drive round everyone else, and park up behind a car thats already fuelling?

Brilliant.
It is the right way to do it and also the only reason they have so much vacant queuing space behind the pumps.
How have you got to your time of life and not worked this out?

After some considerable thought, I've reached a conclusion as to why folks queue at petrol stations. It's because they want some fuel for their cars.

Quite. I would happily drive around a ditherer (and have done many times) and park up behind someone that is actually fuelling up.

We've been over this about 8 pages back.

If theres already a queue, then you're going to look a bit of a prick driving past everyone and parking up behind a car thats at a pump, just in the same way as you'd look a bit of a prick walking past people in the queue in a bank or post office to stand behind someone whos being served.

If theres a queue AND its out onto the road AND i dont want to wait / block traffic, personally i'll probably just drive on to the next station. No world shortage of them.

If driving past everyone floats your boat then go for it

And as per what i was quoted in there - would you drive past a row of people queuing?

If theres an individual dithering, then i've no issues driving round them, and have done in the past. But one individual does not make a queue.

Well I wait for a pump where i can fill without stretching the hose around or over the car and would get bloody irate with anyone who tried to cut into the pump I wanted.
And yes a hose will scratch your paint work, my wifes last car is a testament to that.

What I can't work out is how he's (Deamon) got time to post so much given all the queueing he partakes in.

Edit: just dawned on me that he must post whilst queueing. It's late and I'm tired.

Hey if he wants to sit behind the grannies that have no idea about whats going on as everybody else queues at a pump then who are we to stop him?

There are different forms of queuing, at a petrol station you should go and queue at an individual pump, not block up the entrance waiting for the first one to become clear, thats for the idiots. Perhaps signage needs to be put up for the stupid to realise this.

Having spoken to petrol station workers before they are always puzzled by the idiots that insist on blocking up the entrance rather than queue at a pump.

What about petrol stations with just 1 98 octane pump or only 1 or 2 diesel pumps, should we all sit in the road waiting for idiots that are blocking up the petrol station entrance that have no intention of using either of these pumps? No because this is not an issue if people just queue at the pump they require. Its pretty simple really when you actually think about it.

Hmm.....
a) queue of traffic coming out of the petrol station onto the road whilst one person blocks the entrance waiting for his/her favourite pump or
b) no traffic and a few cars queuing at the appropriate pump.

Which makes more sense?????? Let me think........

This is quiet interesting. As someone who simply drives past all those who stand in a single line and drive right up to the next available pump, I am shocked that there is really folk out there who would then think I am jumping the line. Nort starnger than folk! as they say. Its similar to the being undertaken from the left situation on the highway. If someone can undertake you, then it simply means that you were driving in the wrong lane. Same as waiting for a next available pump in the Gasoline station. If someone else can drive up to a pump and wait for the preceding person to finish while you are waiting in line, you are lining up in the wrong place. Simple!
Thats what that area in front of the pumps are for ("quieng").Use it. Maybe its a British thing this "queing" as you call it?
