£3000 on an 11 years old Citroen? Is that the going rate for one of these?

The 1.9 engine is painfully slow, but will go on forever. The 1.6Hdi will probably breakdown on the way home.

For £3k, I don't think I would want either of them.

Whats the petrol cars like compared to diesel?
I kind of prefered diesel, but probably the 2.0HDi, as I would like it to be cheap to run

So you think they are expensive then

What type of vehicle are you looking for exactly? A Van or a MPV?

A van and a car in one, hence this style of vehicle

As a second car (van) I've had a 2005 Citreon Berlingo Enterprise Van for years in the 2.0HDi guise. It has never let me down in all 132000 miles and has no sign of doing so anytime soon. A wonderful little work horse that I have come quite fond of.

Difficult for me to sit here and say it but I would highly recommend these little things!

Then get one of the many secondhand MPVs on the market instead and fold/remove the seats as needed.

The Berlingo/Partner is not big enough to pull off a convincing Car/Van hybrid with the seats up so is at not advantage there and then you've got to put up with a vehicle with questionable reliability (in HDI form) and with not too many redeemable features.

I'm genuinely surprised. These things are known in the trade for having constant problems. 132k without a single fault is mind blowing.

Don't go anywhere near that DV6 1.6 with no service history. I'm not being melodramatic when I say that is a turbo based ticking time bomb.

As per CaptainSlow, avoid the 1.6 at all costs. No history and they genuine are time bombs.

The 1.9D is slow and not terribly economical though and that 03 one is about £1,000 overpriced.

If you're doing the kind of mileage that a grand will not be enough to cover the fuel difference between petrol and diesel, then you probably don't want to be considering an 11yo car.

Unfortunately some people dont have a lot of choice.

Also, a well maintained 2.0HDI will easily do 250,000 miles. A friend of mine had a 406 2.0HDI that he gave £450 for with 340,000 miles on it. He took it on to 380,000 before his own stupidity with regards to maintenance put it off the road.

Just a few weeks back I'd have said go for the 1.9D, as it'll be slow but last forever etc etc etc.

Right now I'd suggest you find a petrol one, as my bullet proof slow as st, last forever VW SDi grenaded itself and had to have a replacement engine.

At that age, petrol all the way, I'd even go as far as to ask if the OP could make do with that age of Ford Mondeo estate with the 1.8 litre petrol in it, 36 ish to the gallon, and nice looking ones for between £1 & 2 K

The reason for Belingo, Pertner or even Dobo is the twin sliding doors plus they are higher than an estate. I have looked into this wink

On occasions there is some real rubbish posted on PH about certain engines, this however is not one them... I wouldn't touch a DV6 with someone else's 40ft pole

AS others have said the 1.9d engine is almost bullet proof also no problem with a 2.0hdi if you can get one but the 1.6hdi is a guaranteed disaster waiting to happen.
