Considering the purchase of a car registered in Northern Ireland from a used car dealer in England. The car is in England now.

Any potential problems here?

I am going to take a wild guess here, and say no.

(Unless that knob Salmond is not over there at the moment, in that case, I say yes wink )

Seriously though, bugger all to worry about MBH.

Nope - don't believe it'll cause you any issues at all.

The car will be given an English registration number and it will look as if it has always been here.

Will the car even require an English/UK registration number? Plenty of people have NI plates as private plates as NI is part of the UK and I've seen UK format registrations on cars for sale over there.

The last one I viewed had been re registered in NI by someone who lived in Manchester. It was a rebuilt insurance write off and I assume he was trying to hide this, but it came up on my HPI check.

This is the sort of thing I'm thinking about.

Also, do insurers discriminate in any way and is it impossible to put a private plate on such a vehicle?

No probs whatsoever, as you say they still show up on HPI, no insurance discrimination, it's still a UK vehicle, you can choose whether to keep the Irish plate or get an age related UK one.

It won't require it, but you can ask for one - it'll be an age-related to the original first reg date.

And you mean a "GB" number. NI is part of UK. Welsh & Scottish cars get the same format as England, but not NI.

Remember if it has sat nav you'll need the languange changed from norn oirish to english, and it probably wont have the bowler-hat peg in the boot.

'English registration number'...hmmmm..

The only curveballs are Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, etc.

The Bailiff of Guernsey has this registration:

Not really, since they aren't part of the UK.
