Toyota MR2 Turbo. 241bhp, 0-60 in 5.2, 160mph top speed, 1/4 mile 13.4sec. Unfortunately 2k probably would get you one, so much bang for your buck.
this. by far
Will be a shed for the £2k budget though. And you won't get a 240+bhp Rev3 for that money.
thing is with jap cars in this price bracket. most will have been modded. and most will have been owned by chavs and driven to hell and back.

...but it also means genuine ones car be cheap too.

I bought a GTS-t for a shade under 3k, I am sure you could get one now for under 2k.

And yes I know OP specified without modding, but if you have a look on driftworks you will find plenty of extremely fast cars for under 2k that will be mechanically sound. maybe not bodywork though!

You could easily get a rev 3 turbo mr2 for under £2k. I have friends who have bought good used tax and tested ones for less than 1k. Even the best examples don't change hands for more than £3k these days. Not many standard ones about though, but most are still fairly reliable even with light modifications.

Toyota Soarer. Either bullet proof V8 or faster turbo. Vast majority are auto so unloved by the masses and lots left untouched by the modders.

Legnum's and legacy's as already mentioned are a great shout too.

You could get a rev 3 for that money, but even if you went for a rev 1 or 2 you're still getting a car with 220bhp, 0-60 in 5.7 sec and the same 160mph top speed. 1/4 mile time is more like 13.8. Doesn't make much difference.

Anybody who watches mr2 turbo prices will know that sub 2k rev 3s are not common.
