Has anyone got any tips for getting the smell of smoke out of a cloth interior?

My wife's new daily driver was clearly owned by a smoker until recently. We hoped a few days of dangling an air freshener around would do the trick, but it hasn't. The seats have to remain in place - we can't take them out and wash them - but are there any 'spray on' type products that are worth trying?

(Mods: Please feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place, wasn't really sure where it belonged!)

The headlining above the driver probably reeks of smoke. Try shampooing it, that might kill a lot of the smell.

In my experience a smoked in car will never be quite right. You can get improve it so that the smell pretty much goes however if you leave the car on a hot day with the windows up it will come back. Smoke permeates everything including the dash plastics.

Vinegar and water solution in a mist squirting bottle, damp cloth to work it in. Yes, it'll smell like a chip shop for a few days but the vinegar smell goes and in my experience takes a lot of the bad smell with it.

Bi-carb of soda, leave it in a few pots all over the car and it absorbs the smell (eventually).

I wasn't convinced it was working but I sniffed one of the pots and it smelt like an ashtray so left it a few more days and it's definitely much better (the magic trees concealed in every storage cubby / door pocket are pretty effective too!)
