Dullest "fast" car Ive ever had the misfortune to drive....didn't even sound very good for a V10.
Better off with a fast turbo diesel...at least you get the economy.

How do people use this speed/power in this country anyway? It's no A or B road hooner, and you certainly wouldn't be rushing to track it. So are you just risking your license on the motorways, or drag racing hot hatches from traffic lights

[/quote] 500 tax
I have just had to stomach this with my A6 Allroad 3.0Q renewal, mind you 'normal' road tax for my other car is £280, so we are talking a couple of tanks of fuel in reality or a tyre in additional cost for a years use while enjoying the extra power & torque. It just grieves me that tax is calculated irrespective of mileage in my case <5k p/a!!
Its not a cost that should stop a performance purchase - but the principle hurts

This is an S8, but this Japanese company "technical Garage Sasaki" make $11,000 headers and a centre pipe that make it sound like an F1 car.

Debadge it and you would have quite the Q car.

It is a principle thing - Maseratis aren't reknowned for their frugality and low running costs, but the number of people at a Owner's Club the other week that commented how lucky I was as my GS is the the age related band K bracket so £280 last year instead of £490.I have just had to stomach this with my A6 Allroad 3.0Q renewal, mind you 'normal' road tax for my other car is £280, so we are talking a couple of tanks of fuel in reality or a tyre in additional cost for a years use while enjoying the extra power & torque. When there are a lot of very similar cars around and you're looking to buy or sell, a £200+ saving per annum makes a psychological difference. It makes an annual tax, MOT, and service around £800 instead of £1000.
Even better, mine makes it into the age related bracket by 1 day

i would shake the hand of a man who buys a s6 and then spends the $11k on that exhaust too! They would be a legend in my book!

The C6 S6/RS6 V10 has long life spark plugs they need to be changed at 160,000km or 100,000 miles. This is normally not a problem.. But due to the length of the V10 and the way it sits back into the bulkhead, the rear plugs are inaccessible and it requires the engine/gearbox to be dropped out of the car to access them. The S8 had a wider engine bay for the w12 and so this isn't an issue. Only the C6 has this 'characteristic'
Im not sure this is the case.My brother is in the industry and as such services all the family's cars due to a friends and family discount and he is well known for letting me know when i give him an awkward job. I tend to hear about it endlessly until the next one
I had my plugs changed at 60k along with the major service and i believe that simply loosening the engine mount is sufficient to access the rearmost plugs.
It only took us an hour and a half to whip the entire inlet off hence why i know the carbon build up on my valves isnt very serious.
Other than the slow tight corners, it drove the Nordschleife very well! Definitely the most comfortable 'ring' lap I have ever experienced...

11 grand for an exhaust on a 12 grand car, impressive man maths !https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZqAckA0wMg

I think the S6 isn't a true petrolhead car, it is a discreet executive express with an impressive turn of speed, for those who want the luxury, relative anonymity and arent fussed about fuel costs. It is fast, not supercar fast but plenty fast enough for any motoring situation, the RS6 is bonkers but the difference with an S6 is largely superfluous on the road, plus you then have the fact its more obvious and more expensive, the S6 has a niche, a small one, but it is there.

there have been many more skewed ratios in modification cost to purchase cost... however not many of them as sound as the above would be! I'm sure some of the max power scene tools have spent far more than £11k on just some of their stupid body mods.r7ehw said:
Liking this car a lot. I've just bought a 2.7 Bi Turbo Allroad as my budget doesn't stretch to the £12,500 more like £2,500 which is what I paid for it. Loving the power and smoothness of the Audi even if not loving the near 20mpg's I get around town. My car came with a full history and a folder full of receipts (All Audi!) and I have to say the servicing costs on these more top end cars can be fairly ruinous. Not to be undertaken likely, although if like me you don't mind spending on the inevitable big bills and fuel, then they make a fabulous way to travel.
I'll be looking for one of these in 4 years time when the price has tumbled to near banger money
LOL wasnt X -reg with circa 126k miles in silver was it? I'll be looking for one of these in 4 years time when the price has tumbled to near banger money

Some of the early cars have had worn cylinders bores like the RS4's of the same vintage - check for blue smoke on start up or ask someone to watch as you drive giving it the beans. The ones that have been done under warranty the engine block itself was £11,000.
You do not have to drop the engine to change the spark plugs.
And they are NOT long life they need changing at 40-50k.
