130i m sport. That engine sounds special all the time and is so responsive.
I've replaced the rft's with Conti sc5 tyres and it's fine, firm but not crashy.
Looks are subjective, xenon headlights help a lot in that respect.

The 130i? Don't think so!
It's been the most reliable car I've owned (55k miles and 3.5 years)

yes

Unbelievably reliable car so far. Least trouble I've ever had.

One other thing. OP mentions wanting a discreet car. I think the 130 fits this description better. I wouldn't call the ST discreet it subtle!

Oh, have driven both, 130 every time for me!

Oh behave, you're not a red card caller are you?? biggrin

Why bother posting on a thread about a car you obviously hate, either opinionated nonsense or a load of crap about them? You seem a little bit bitter?
Did a bloke with a 1 series run off with your girlfriend or something?

This is not proving to be the case. I'd be happier with the 130i than most things as it avoids turbo's.

Agreed, one of the most bullet proof engines BMW have made.

The guy talks utter tosh.

Interesting that most people who say the ST is better have had to modify them extensively to make them better. If you spend the same amount on a 130i I'm sure that would be much better too (LSD, Suspension, exhaust etc)
Fast Fords have always been about this though, and if you are the sort that enjoys reading demon tweeks catalogues and the like then its easy to see why the Focus is attractive (£1500 gives 300+ bhp), if you want the best car out of the box it has to be the bimmer.

Wasn't there a recent Carpool with a 130i running an LSD, uprated suspension and some other goodies?

Perhaps he has a thing for STs? Or Ford? Either way, his comments seem to be off the mark, although the face lift 1 series has a face only a mother could love.

If it were me, I'd go for a 330i or 335i if you could find one at that price. Much the same attributes as the 130i but more comfortable and better looking.

If it were me I would go for an 750i, similar attributes but even more comfy and more comfortable.

However, the OP wanted...

Want a discreet hot hatch with plenty of power that sounds nice, just had a astra vxr nurburgring and it was not the best car I have ever had.
biggrin

The 1 series is a really fun car to drive, and is 95% as comfy as the 3 series, the 3 series is not all that fun to drive and hardly any comfort benefits.

I would stick 130i.

Well it is an open discussion and many of the attributes of the 1 series are offset by its looks. I simply offered an alternate valid opinion. No need for the flaming!
