not entirely true the 1800 golf gti mk1 was 80's car and in my opinion the best

quote=Mound Dawg]Golf GTi but the Mk 2 version. The Mk 1 is from the 70s.

Its an odd one, the XR3I probably sums up the era but I didn't like it at the time. The XR3I in my head at least was bought by people who wanted to be flash but weren't really petrol heads.

So I'm going with the Manta, partly just as a big two fingered salute to the XR mob but also because as a young lad I wondered past a row of Manta 400s lined up on Douglas prom in the Isle of Man, waiting to compete on the Manx National. Funnily enough that image is etched indelibly into my brain. Now that was a school trip to remember!
Tell the truth....you're going with the Manta because you had one wink
Yes I had one briefly in the late Nineties, partly because of childhood memories!

Ignoring the obvious supercar choices and focussing on what I actually saw on the roads, I'd say the XR3i nailed it, followed by Mk2 Golf GTI, Cavaliers, Sierras, big 2.8 Granadas (then later Scorpios), Renault 9/11/25, anything by Rover/MG and Mk2 Transits. Audi doesn't really ring any 80s bells with me. Ignoring the quattro, what else did they do of note?
The world's first proper performance estate.

Oh, okay, thanks. It wasm'tt meant as a pithy question btw; I genuinely would be lost if someone asked me to name a significant 80s Audi car other than the quattro.

What is it out of interest?

The Audi 80 Sport was reasonably popular as well - an Audi 80 with a Golf Gti engine

My friend had the 80CD - fuel injected 5-pot engine so sounded pretty good wrung out in the gears and had similar power

White?
Turbo charger?
Pop up lamps?
Vulgar skirts and spoilers?
Naff stickers?
Hideous interior?
BBS wheels?

Certainly ticks most of the 1980s boxes.

It always amuses me to see how teeny the wheels on a Capri are.

Didn't the Jaguar XJ220 actually come out in about 1992 though?

Yes, I got ahead of myself there. boxedin
In 1988 Jaguar showed the shape of things to come - concept car was unveiled to the public.
