Does it annoy you? Does it? Does it? Does it really annoy you? Does it? Does it annoy you?? biggrin

Where has he even said it does anything better?
He just said he fancied one.

I prefer them as a daily driver as they are much more relaxing to drive when you just want to waft around.
Yeah they cost more to fuel and they have more to go wrong than a family eurbox estate, but I don't care, a small price to pay to be in a car I want to be in.

My guess is you're someone who hasn't even hit is 30s yet, and every car journey has to be like a rally, if it isn't rock hard suspension and a stripped out interior that feels raw then why bother?

Sometimes having a a big luxury barge is nice, and a 4x4 definitely gives you a much more relaxing feel to driving which appeals to many.

I never thought I would own one, but with a young son, a teenage daughter a large dog and all the crap that goes with it I bought one as a second car, I din't have to worry about my sport touring or M3 going down the dirt tracks and getting muddy bikes thrown in the back, and being a second car I still had a 'toy'.

I could now live without any of the 'toys' but would hate to not own a 4x4.

I just to be as insular and ignorant as many one here about 4x4's, look at my snipes from a few years ago, but I tried one, and now looking back I feel I was a bit of an ignorant .
Yes it annoys me biggrin but I must digress and apologise as I don't get annoyed about what religion people choose to follow so why should I get annoyed about what type of car people buy? I do have some respect for the OP in that he wants to follow his heart whereas someone like me would just see a 4x4 not being used as such and then not understand why and buy and then vehicle suitable to my needs.

You were right about the not yet 30's bit so yeah I think I should really shut up hehe ...

With your budget in mind I would go for an E53 Facelift 4.8is X5.

We had a 4.4 E53 for 11 years and dispite a few common niggle it was a fantastic car that put a smile my dads face everytime he drove it.. it drove like a 5 series estate with minimal body roll and plenty of grunt.

pathetic off road mind you, but that's not really what the X5 was intended for!

Could look at Cayenne's but i think their dog ugly, my opinion of course. how much are SRT8 Cherokees these days? might be worth loking into if you can handle the plasticness of the cabin!

I totally get why one would want a 4x4, they are great (I've had 3). I even get why you would want a fast one, I very much enjoyed my Jeep Commander Hemi but I don't get wanting one that handles like a sportscar. The point of a 4x4 is its off road/poor weather capability and by attempting to make tall heavy SUVs handle like sportscars this is is completely compromised.

There are 4x4s out there that combine proper 4x4 capability and speed, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi and the Range Rover 5.0SC etc but they don't handle like sportscars and nor should they. These I can totally see the point of but things like X5M/X6M/ML63/Q7 etc just seem utterly pointless in my eyes. Each to their own though, it's your money so spend it on whatever you like.
