I am not sure where to put this post (so please bear with) as I am fuming.furious

My garage was broken into late last night.

I have worked for many years to be able to pay for the garage and contents therein.

Whoever broke in decided to damage the right hand door (see photo) and I assume crawl in (how, God knows) then open the door a few feet with the button on the wall.

Anyhoo, I have checked the cars (no damage), no tools taken (but the tool cupboards have been searched).

Chainsaws, mowers, drills etc all where they were left. Even the Tom Tom Sat Nav in one of the cars (on the windscreen) is still in situ.

Very, very strange that someone would go to some trouble to cut through the door, force the panel, gain entry and not take a single thing.

Probably having a look first to weigh up the risk (cctv, alarm, dog) vs reward (whats inside) element and also what infrastructure they will require for a timely extraction of your possessions at a later date.

Time to get a better garage door and an alarm.

Maybe they were looking for car keys in the tool boxs? Seems pretty lame attempt anyway, kids maybe?

Trade Lottie for a Rottie?

(Seriously, I'm annoyed for you, I know how pissed off I'd be)

I'm amazed no one heard them - that must have made a right racket, no?

I'd go with the going for a reccee to come back later with the correct size van.

Recce for a later visit?

Mine was broken in to a few years ago, and as it wasn't visited every day by me, it was cleaned out over a few daysfrown

Looked for a motorbike perhaps? Or a classic car that's easier to steal?

No blood left at scene?

Maybe get a Rottie friend for Lottie?

There have been a few break ins locally recently, and I suppose (statistically) it was going to happen one day.

The garage alarm did not go off, so something needs to be done about that today and another concern is I need to secure the building for tonight.

A very unpleasant experience to go through.

Scene of Crimes on their way but I do not think they will find anything useful.

I think the recce thing is what happened.

The garage is far enough away from the house so a late night recce was possible without being disturbed.

If they turn up. They didn't when we got broken into last year, three appointments & they never managed to have any record of any of them let alone turn up.

Oh that is bloody annoying!

Local police have been helpful (so far).

looks like a decent door, they could of thought there were motorbikes inside, or were after something specific , or they could have been disturbed

My old 9st Rottie was about as much use as my kids' guinea pig for guarding the house. His priorities went food, playing and cuddles. Though I guess the sheer size of him might have put people off, but to me he always looked like a friendly idiot.

The must be a bit thick to have prised the door open where they did, so the door couldn't be opened much. So looks like much thought didn't go into it.

Possibility of them coming back must be very strong.

I had a very similar experience a couple of months ago, as documented http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

My situation was slightly different as money was stolen from surrounding units, but nothing material was taken from mine. It's a horrible feeling so I do sympahise - just make sure you've got some decent deterents and protection.
