RE: McLaren P1 GTR new details

well IMO the P1 doesn't look that good, especially from the front. And no matter how much tech, bhp, grip, LED and carbonstuff they put in it, it's still not desirable to me like a Zonda is. A manual gearbox, v12 Zonda, any engine would suffice.
And whats to like about this programme for gazillionaires? Race against other rich people alone on famous race tracks? The crew that you get must be fluent in russian and arabic then...

What would it take to make it road legal? One can dream, right?
I'm amazed by how much these track specials cost, they sell like hot cakes too.
Presumably by removing everything they've added, ie a normal P1I'm amazed by how much these track specials cost, they sell like hot cakes too.

What’s great about the P1 programme is the fact that a very large percentage of owners are giving their cars some serious abuse on the tracks, these are not garage queens or poser cars. We have not seen anywhere near as much customer track activity from the main rivals with the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918. I think the P1 owners are a different breed which is great. And whats to like about this programme for gazillionaires? Race against other rich people alone on famous race tracks? The GTR program just ups the anti. You will find that most owners are from Western Europe and America and are real car guys. So don’t expect to see many Russian oil barons complete with heavy security at a GTR event, these will be real cars guys living out child hood fantasies of being a race driver, I wish I could join them.
PS Giving a choice my garage would also have a Zonda F front and centre

More than likely it's road legal in alot of countries, such as the Middle East where the regulations and rules tend not to matter as much. I can only hope that McLaren take steps to ensure they don't end up in private collections until they've been thoroughly used and abused!
You don't actually keep the car - McLaren keep it for you then take it to the circuit. You turn up, drive it, then they take it back.Monty Python said:

So you pay neigh on £2m on car rental? ...(obviously including team support, logistics etc) Naa there must be more to it than that, what do they do with the car once its finished with the races? Surely then you get to keep it!?TobyLaRohne said:

If I owned a 'regular' P1, I'd just pay McLaren to make my car look like the GTR, so I'd get the benefit of an awesome-looking car that I could keep, without having to bother with any of the fantasy race car extras! It's fantastic that McLaren are offering all this, but personally I wouldn't be interested. (Is it really that different to what Ferrari did with the FXX, btw?)I suspect that if you wanted to keep your GTR at home between meetings McLaren would not have a problem with that as well as you using it for other track day events when you so please. They only step in for their organised events.
One thing I am not sure about is how long this programme will last; will it be for just the first year of ownership? I presume if you wanted to continue with the team support after that McLaren would be happy to empty your pockets again. At that point I suspect a number of race outfits could provide support like Lanzanti did with the F1 race programme.
As others have said the FIA should look to sanction a race series to accommodate the likes of the P1 GTR, LaFerrari FXX, Porsche 918, Zonda R and the Koenigsegg 1:One. You could even invite the likes of the Venom. It would be a massive crowd pleaser and would channel added revenue and publicity to the manufacturers. The trickle down effect would also benefit current owners and future cars. To make things easy just add it as a separate class to the LeMans series, what’s not to like?
