You know the score, the lusting after heavy and potentially borkful metal. Hours spent on autotrader, eBay et al, here and elsewhere sourcing all sorts of woefully inappropriate and oversized cars which of course will make our lives better. Man maths calculations and the usual routine of massive fuel and maintenance bills. Or the alternative, cheap wheels picked up and run into the ground, rinse and repeat but all met with derision from our friends and colleagues for whom a German diesel on oversized wheels is the answer. Good fun and all that but...

...does your significant other approve or even partake?

A few days ago I spotted what looked like a very presentable Volvo V70, phase 1 model full of service history and heated leather for basically pocket money. Thought it'd be ideal for the wife and kids, plenty of room, safety and wipe clean seats and as a result infinitely better than a new car on the never never, but no - I was a fool for suggesting she drive such a thing although I've had Volvo estates before and a mixture of barges/ sheds over the past 6 years and currently have a large cheap Alfa on the drive.

What's the consensus from the PH community? Does anyone have a partner who indulges in sheds or silly V8 barges?

(Basically a 'what does your wife drive' thread)

Nope, she's got a 14 plate Hyundai i10. Nice car, but not interesting at all.

Mine semi-barges, but fully appreciates the niceties of the breed. Currently uses a Subaru Outback for 30k miles a year, her requirements were "auto box, comfy heated seats and enough room to get all that st I have to take around". biggrin

My wife has an eight year-old Octavia VRS. Not quite a shed yet, but still a good chunk of car for the money.

OH is a closet PHer. I spotted a mint GT4 ST205 in a yard a few years back and told her about it. She went and took a look and bought it. Mind you, she already had an ST185 at that stage... I can't fault her for suggesting I build a GT40, although as the build has dragged on she is becoming less and less interested... I suspect her interest will be rekindled when it fires up for the first time.

We have a car each plus a shed / barge V70 T5 which is used for all our hack jobs. 2001 with all leather, 100k, full volvo history and she loves it!

My wife's shed stinks of horses & dogs, is covered in crap from the farm yard drive so I refuse to wash & clean it anymore. being an Audi I have also refused to fix when it goes wrong again & its just gone wrong this week.

Its economical so its cheap to run rolleyes

Not sure I'm doing this right scratchchin

Some have sheddy bargeness thrust upon them.

My wife doesn't complain too much about the Y-plate Rover 75 2.5 tourer I have encouraged her to drive. We need an estate, and I "need" a BMW 840.

It's much like making love to a beautiful woman.
Get yourself into the old box, hammer it and leave it when it breaks down....

Mine has decided that doesn't like driving anymore and that I should pick her up and drop her off. I sold her Mini Cooper about 6 months ago because it had only covered 2000 miles in a year but I think I'll be getting her new one now and I doubt it'll be of the shed or barge variety

05 Galaxy 2.3 auto.

She'd like a P38 RR and we recently found a lovely 00W 4.6 Vogue with low miles and FSH but I chickened out due to the potential issues with the V8 engine ie you don't know if it's a good one or not.

I've suggested an L322 but a) it's bigger and b) it's difficult to find one without tints and c) most of them are black
