When we were looking at replacing her previous car (V6 156) a couple of years ago my mild suggestion of a new Fiesta or similar was dismissed with disgust. She ended up with a then 12 year old 172 and in a recent discussion of "what if" said she certainly don't want to replace the Renault and if anything would like to add an MX5 to it. That said, she'd prefer a Mk2 because as much as she likes Mk1's, Mk2 might be a bit better being slightly newer.

You may have figured by now there is a happy man here.

Not really, she bought her Fiat 500 new (on the scrappage scheme) and is planning on running it into the ground, so I guess it will be a bit sheddy eventually.

Heated seats are a big deal. I think if my OH was speccing a car from scratch it would started with heated seats, then sat nav, then parking sensors. Strangely he won't use the Bluetooth or any of the controls on the steering wheel.

Sorry meant she not he. The OH is female. I could manage without heated seats and sat nav though parking sensors are handy!

Mine thinks I'm mental. I sold a perfectly nice Mercedes CLS for a TVR and a J reg Merc 260e nuts Amongst other varied sheds.....

I like being me though and that's my man maths justification.

She drives a Honda Civic 57 plate diesel bought new banghead you can picture her with her hands on her hips saying "It does everything perfectly well, and even does 60 to the gallon"

My boyfriend drives whatever I choose to insure him on. He's got less than no interest in cars. We share the SLK and as long as it's not any more expensive next time around, he doesn't care what I pick.

I wouldnt say she sheds, but she see's a vehicle as a long-term investment and in that sense will make sure work is done when it needs to be done. She is concerned more about the mechanicals than the looks. It's the shed mentality (consider what work is priority, do that first to keep the car running and reliable) that she has.

My wife doesn't understand why I need a four litre V8 to get to work but concedes it is "nice" to passenger in.

She hates flash motors and wants something anonymous. Currently in a Cooper S which I bought her, but would like a Fiesta with 5 seats so she can carry both daughters + 2 friends at the same time.

My wife is on sheds.

First about 3 years ago while learning to drive ( she's a Londoner ) was a 1.4L Polo 6N.

Then I went mental when looking for a larger and better replacement after she has passed for 6 months and got a quite sheddy shed of a Golf IV 2.3L V5. She liked it and the extra go but it was full of annoying little niggles and I hated it. So 5 months ago we switched to an BMW E46 323i for £1150.

Living in London and with the little trips to shops and bootcamps she does its not really worth going barge yet. In fact as kids may be along in a couple of year I'd like to goo a bit offbeat like a 944 Lux or something and then back to a shed / barge when kids are about.

The drive by wire throttle is naff at low revs but otherwise I like the BMW! Nothing goes wrong and it sists quietly and beautifully on the motorway if needed.

Thing is that I am member of Classis Car Club London so always have weird classics and sports cars out at the weekends anyway so I am quite happy with those and then have my Tuscan and a shed.

My wife actually quite likes cars and driving. She's always had small low-powered cars, but having now enjoyed the experience of 300+bhp in my car (aka the miracle of a car that will accelerate up a motorway incline in top gear without needing to change down), she has declared that I should feel free to upgrade her Fiat 500 Twinair to something more potent, preferably a late model Porsche 911.

However, she doesn't like old cars much at all and she definitely doesn't care for "ugly" large ones. She prefers them as modern as possible, compact and nice to look at.

So any dreams of buying big old V8 barges are unlikely to be indulged. On that basis, I'm glad I scratched my Merc 500E itch before I met her!

There's always a 201 on my school run. And a 124. And sometimes a 123. Plus a lovely 80's 528.

Much much better idea than a Clio :-)

But apparently the Clio looks "cute" :-(
