The most hateful car ever made.

My dad had an Austin Metro City X, it was an awful car: rubbish driving position, no back seat comfort what so ever (it felt like the seat cover was stretched over the petrol tank), it would get grounded on speed bumps (13" wheels), the exhaust kept on falling off.

For this reason I hate ALL Rovers on principle.

Early 1.4 K in an 800kg car won't have head gasket problems unless it's been abused/neglected.

Sweet little engine.

That just happens to be bolted into one of the biggest piles of poo to ever grace mainstream motoring.

Weird!

I passed one of these being wrung out at 70mph on the M23 this morning.

An old bloke was giving it max death beans, the windows were steamed up and he was about an inch away from the steering wheel.

Textbook stuff!!

You'd have to be a bit kinky to fancy that. But such people exist.

Why waste energy with a crusher - just set fire to it !

Had to learn in one , why on earth did the AA think it was a good idea to have a fleet of these ?!?!?

What a brilliant choice, if your looking for something to go banger racing in.

Other than that, no, no and no again.

No, its a reflection of BLs inability to do any R&D or change anything at all during the 80s and 90s, one of the reasons for it's downfall.

They're no worse in an accident than any other small car from the early 1980s, and better than some.

Maybe that's the Metro's problem - that it went on too long. They were as old as the hills by this one's time: the Metro is a classic car now really.

I like them. More so the early ones, but even this car with its ever so posh interior can find a place in my affections. I learned to drive in a Metro. My driving instructor had one. It was a lovely car to drive, so much nicer than my mother's Golf, which it bettered on the road in every way other than speed.

A good Shed of the week. I seem to be rather off-message with this, though.

Do Foxtrot Oscar. Drop a 1.8VVC lump in and have the last laugh. Metro Gti's were (are) massively underated little rockets. Some people wouldn't know what fun is if it bit the end of their ker-knob. Fun isnt a chipped 118D IMHO.

First Warwickshire is a different county to West Midlands, so if it is in West Midlands, it must have let Warwickshire

Secondly the crooked management came long after the crooked Unions.

Thirdly, Metros were the saviour of BL only if you ignore the £billions of tax payers money spent propping it up.

Finally, they were actually quite good for their day. A time when the Rover SD1 was European car of the Year and Football was watched standing up, in fear, especially if you weren't white, like socks were in those days.

Not much love for the humble Metro on here is there.

I wouldn't part with my hard earned for this example but a nice poverty spec early car or a series 1 MG Metro are cars I often consider adding to the fleet.

Also the alloys on this one are not aftermarket but the original ones the car came with.

Same would happen to an AX GT/Gti, but it doesn't stop people fisting off within PH over them.

It is because it is a Rover.

I'd haggle him down to under 500 sheets mind hehe

You see, what you've done there is use the word 'humble' instead of 'boll*cks'
