Some forum members might think this is the wrong section for this post, but I want it to reach as many people as possible.

It seems that one of the vistors at the Goodwood Revival meeting helped himself (!) to a piston and conrod assembly which was being displayed by the National Motor Museum in order to raise funds. This is one of 16 matched and balanced parts, and clearly cannot be replaced easily. Think what you will of the expensive folly that was the BRM V16, but it was an important part of British motor racing history.

The theft has been announced on other car-related websites, and the common consensus is that it will appear on e-bay or another sales medium. I think not, I reckon some enthusiast with no morals whatsoever will adorn his study wall with it.

Whoever did this is an a***hole of the highest order. I hope as motoring enthusiasts you will have the decency to report anything you know to the appropriate bodies. The NMM simply want its return and there's a good chance there'll be no further action.

Rant over.

That's sad news to hear. Very disappointed somebody's done this. Is there anyway this thread can be near the front page for a while ?

OP - Perhaps an address to send it back to might help ?

Yes, of course.

The appeal was originated by Doug Nye, probably the most respected motor sport historian and journalist in the world. He is on the organising committees for Goodwood events.

He has provided an address - Doug Hill, National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, Brockenhurst, Hants, SO42 7ZN.

There are dishonest people in all walks of life, but for some reason best known to myself, I always like to think that motor sport enthusiats are some of the more friendly and helpful of folks. Clearly, not so. I have difficulty expressing my anger at this crime. Pure selfishness.
