I'd leave the area and let the automatic fire extinguishes do their job.
You mean the 'automatic fire extinguisher' like the one used by the bloke who actually tackled it? wink

(I'm in the 'grab one of the extinguishers that's right next to the pumps and at least try to put it out' camp BTW).

I accept the point about kids, to a degree, but TBH the amount of time he took faffing about getting in his car and then moving it, he could have grabbed an extinguisher and put the fire out and modern petrol stations don't exactly go up in a Hollywood ball of flame, so IMO the risk isn't any greater.

What made me wonder is why the attendant engaged the pump if he had nothing on him? Unless is was a pay at pump one?
I sometimes use this station and it doesn't have a pay at the pump feature.

In Russia, they do ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42CDVeB0QrM (though that did include a significantly bigger quantity of fuel... hehe )

wasn't that just the dribble from just putting the pipe on the floor?
I agree; just the contents of the hose.
Not the contents of the hose. The nozzle shuts of the fuel at the hose end.
