....a 12v powered bluetooth car speaker?

I have searched and just find Bluetooth speakers suitable for phone calls, which is not what I am after.

I have recently acquired a 1981 Mercedes 500 SEL and obviously 33 year old stereo and speaker technology is pretty dismal.

I am reluctant to just change the headunit as it would be nice to maintain the originality and I would rather not stick some horrendously modern looking modern tat in the centre console.

So what I am after is a speaker/s that can be powered by 12v so it/they can remain in situ and not require charging.

It would be great to utilise the standard speaker locations, but I appreciate that is unlikely.

Thanks in advance for anyone that can point me in the right direction.

A quick look on Amazon for "in car bluetooth speakers" shows a few, which although they are generally for hands-free calling, they will stream your music through the original stereo using an FM transmitter. Is that he sort of thing you were after?

Does the stereo have any sort of auxiliary input in the back of it?

If so, you can get a bluetooth module to wire into it.

I use one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fusion-Marine-Bluetooth-Mo...

Thanks for the replies.

James i did the same search prior to posting, as you say they are focused on phone call taking and making. I want something purely to play music through - there was one that looked a possibility but the reviews indicated it was poor for playing music.

Feef, i haven't checked yet, but assumed probably not as it is so old and I am not sure CD's existed back in 1981 so nothing additional to connect.

Vx220 - nothing showing buddy ?

If it were me, I'd butcheap Bluetooth has unit and install in the glove box. All the standalone speakers will sound terrible.

Sorry, forgot the link!

http://www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/

Think these may look older than 1981. Maybe search for an '80s Pioneer/Blaupunkt catalogue (people upload the strangest things...) then try eBay for a "period" aftermarket head unit?

Surely most of the newer ones will be USB powered? Then just get a cigar lighter - USB adapter and you're away.
