BBC said:
The fee for drivers applying for a provisional driving licence online will fall from £50 to £34 and online renewals after 10 years will fall from £20 to £14.

The new fees, representing price cuts of up to 32%, begin on 31 October.

As well as the cut in driving licences, the fee for driver tachograph cards - used by businesses to record how far their staff are driving - will fall from £38 to £32.

Typical I renewed mine last month. Given the dire state of the country's finances surely it would make more sense to keep the prices as they are and use the profits to pay some of the deficit?

Driving licences/passports should be sold at cost, making a profit out of them is wrong.

Probably allowed by the cost savings at the DVLA now that the tax disc is gone.

And the fact that toilet Gordon Brown is no longer in charge, the man that ramped up the prices in the first place.

Also down to not issuing the paper part of licences as of January. And about time; how long have we had the internet for?

Pay out for an unwanted passport or get no discount because without the passport it cannot be done online - is that right?
