Hi people, I'm not a twitter/facebook person but could people please share/tweet this outrageous problem I'm having with the ironically named 'Quote Me Happy Insurance Co'

I'm picking up my new, just released Mini Cooper 5 door hatch next tuesday, I tried to change details on line at Quote me Happy but the new model isn't listed so called them. They say they don't know when the new model will appear on their list so it will probably be two weeks before they can cover it - Full stop refused to do anything.

Great! so the news is that Quote Me Happy Insurance customers will be refused cover on their new Mini 5 door hatch until an unknown date in the future when QMH have heard of it and add it to their system!

I did mention that they may expect a bit of publicity so any help is appreciated, cheers

I take it they are offering a full pro-rota refund for the remainder of the policy term, so that you can buy a policy elsewhere?

I agree with them. Its a hideous car so if people cannot insure them then I do not have to see them on the roads.

They've certainly quoted me happy. smile

You didn't check the insurance situation before ordering/buying the car?

I doubt I would either Von, if buying a mainline brand.

If I were changing to a kit car or something exotic perhaps, but a bog standard (albeit new model) BMW Mini ?

Seriously? Fair do's if he'd come on here saying it's costing £XXXX and I can't afford it or he'd bought some rare and exotic hyper car.

But I don't think it all unreasonable to assume that your current insurance company will continue to offer you insurance on your new, everyday, 5 door hatchback.

Totally ridiculous, real 'computer says no moment there OP - I'd be fuming.

Agreed. Its a mainstream car from a mainstream manufacturer. Its not as if releasing a new model is particularly rare either.

The insurance groupings/vehicle listings are maintained and released by the Association of British Insurers, it's nothing to do with Aviva or their system. They couldn't quote you if they wanted to as they don't know what insurance group the vehicle will be so they don't know which base rate to use.

I've just checked on the broking system I have access to and there's no 5 door hatchback MINI - this will most likely be affecting all insurers and brokers. I remember the same thing when the 997 was released, vehicles were delivered before insurance lists were updated.
Strange then that the new 5 door models ARE listed on comparison websites like Meerkat but Quote Me F'ing UHappy not going to list it for two weeks or so!

Yeah, just found them, I wasn't looking under 'Cooper'. In my defence there are 924 models of 'Cooper' (that's just MINIs, not Minis as well) on the ABI list.

Can be hard work insuring a Mini - when we had one some insurance companies insisted on listing out every single optional extra. I believe they're better now, but at one time you basically got seats and a plastic steering wheel and that was it! Even in a Cooper S as standard.

Most extras were ok, but our had a limited slip diff - a lot of insurance companies didn't like that. Silly really when it's a factory option.

Just had a similar experience with the sea captain based company, we've bought a second hand car, how on earth do I know what 'standard' spec was, and what is optioned on our particular car, paper work like that is long lost in its history, I've just said 'chilli' and left it at that. banghead

If you call a Mini main dealer parts dept and give them the last 7 digits of the chassis number, they will be able to email you a spec list with all options from factory. If you ask nicely smile

We had the list of every option on our Mini - it was getting to the LSD which caused the issues!

Though I do recall one company having issues with a leather interior - I think that was a foreign call centre thing though.

Funny enough, it was the sea lord named company which we insured it with and had no issues with them.

Comedy thing is we changed the exhaust on the 350z recently and thought that would cause all manner of headaches; but it turns out this is on a list of permitted modifications and attracts no additional premium so long as we tell them! Funny old world.
