I have done a few things over the years from helping push broken down cars to a safe place, giving lifts and reporting accidents where people have just driven off believing no one had seem them. In return, I have had people help me when my car was stuck in the snow and after I was involved in a big accident. What goes around comes around.

Waiting at the cash toll booth on the Severn crossing about 4 cars from the barrier.

Waited for bloody ages when I noticed that the countdown of remaining fee to be paid was £1, waited a bit more and realised that the poor bloke either didn't have another quid or was waiting for assistance to argue the toss about a quid that the machine had 'eaten'.

Either way, I ran to the front and chucked a pound coin in the bin, the barrier went up and the fker drove off without comment. Got a round of applause from the rest of the queue though.

Act of random kindness or just lack of patience??

In traffic on the A52 in Nottingham the other day; spotted a Peugeot 3008 with a flat rear tyre so pulled alongside, lowered the window and honked my horn to get the driver's attention. When he lowered his window, I shouted across to tell him. He replied "Oh, thanks!"

...and kept driving.

A thread about RX8 reliability in another forum...

I said:
I bought my second 13B turbo because it was £200 cheap and had a seized engine. The car had developed a misfire and the owner took it to a garage to get it looked at. While it was there the engine seized and had to be towed home. The owner wasn't charged but was understandably gutted.

I was thinking I could rebuild the engine and sell the car on for a quick profit but as soon as I opened the bonnet I noticed the standard spark plugs has been removed. They were knackered and no doubt the cause of the misfire. The replacement plugs didn't look right so I put the car in 2nd, took the handbrake off and pushed it back a few feet. The engine turned and locked again. I took the spark plugs out that were 5mm too long, fitted the correct ones; the car started first turn of the key and was absolutely faultless.

I drove the car back to the chap I had bought it from that morning and as well as getting my £200 back I charged him £30 for the spark plugs.
I had completely forgotten about that one.

I had an insignia push me into the outside lane on a hatched double motorway sliproad on the M6 yesterday, but got what appeared to be a sheepish and sincere 'sorry' apology wave from him. We all cock up sometimes, and it was refreshing to see someone acknowledge and apologise for their mistake.

If you get into a Korma coma you wake to a Jamaican aroma.

Similar thing today, I was forced to brake and head pretty sharply into the outside lane by a van driver who had to take avoiding action after someone tried to merge into him. Not really his fault but he apologised nontheless, which I appreciated.

(Also, if you happen to be on here, apologies my GF gave you a bit of a dirty look. She was a bit startled! hehe )

I also had someone apologise for pulling out on me today, a first for me. It was a Renaultsport Megane so I think he could have accelerated away, but barely accelerated so I flashed, he flashed his hazards and put his hand up, I put my hand up back to say "apology accepted". Didn't speed up though.

On the way into work last night I observed a driver who was all over the place. + or - 10mph of th speed limit, drifting over the centre line running over a couple of catseyes before jerking back to the left.

I have a rule about these things...

"If I were a Police officer would I pull this guy over?"

...if the answer is yes I call 101 hands free immediately and report it.

There were units close by so I gave a running commentary as the driver nearly hit cars coming the other way before clipping the curb the other side. I lost my view briefly as he jumped a real light and had to use a bus stop lay by to avoid a collision. CCTV had him at this point. From the lights I got to a straight just as he turned right into a side road and CCTV lost him. I followed and he parked up outside a house and I managed to give the operator a full description of the driver as I went past. I got to the end of the road ready to turn around and keep an eye on things until the Police unit arrived and my mirrors filled with blue lights. cop

If you report someone you believe to be a drink driver today; you save a life tomorrow.

The arresting officer was a friend of mine and swung by work to get a statement, tell me the driver was five times over the legal limit and was being held over night due to the black bin bags of freshly cut cannabis that were in the boot of the car. He didn't tell me exactly how much but it was a "custodial amount". judge

So a top tip for any apprentice drug lords out there. Make sure your transporter drivers are sober enough not to attract attention.

On the daily drive back from the train station I noticed an older style fiat Punto pull out in-front of me from a side junction (plenty of room etc.). As he turned right to join my road I thought I saw his front passenger wheel wobble. Initial thought was that it was just a dodgy hubcap that hadn't been properly fitted however I then noticed as he straightened the wobble seemed to stop, then start again and then stop. At times it was a ludicrous wobble, worse than I had ever seen and then it would be fine again.

A few hundred meters later, whilst I am trying to decide if I am going to flash the guy to stop or follow him home, he happened to turn into my housing estate. Andy Murray Wimbledon semi final was on and I was dying to get home to see it but followed the guy to his house. I jumped out, had a quick chat and realised he wasn't a hands on car type, so I used a screw driver I had and removed the centre cap that hides the wheel bolts... Two of the four bolts were rattling around in the hub area, complete unattached, the third one was removed without even one quarter of a turn, literally just pulling it out with no resistance, leaving the fourth one with an unknown but expected very small amount of threads in contact with the hub, holding the wheel on.

He had no tools, so I nipped round, watched Andy tidy up his match and then returned and replaced all the bolts on that wheel, torque checked the other wheels on the punto and then did the same on the wheels on his astra.

Supposedly they were trading the car in, in a weeks time and it had been making a strange noise going round right bends for the last two weeks. Chap had a young toddler in his family too. I gave him the recommendation that if a car is making a weird noise, have a basic look and if you can't find the issue, get it into the garage for a quick safety check.

He turned up at the house a couple of days later and provided me a crate of beer. We are now "train buddies" and see each other regularly on the trip into Edinburgh.

Happy to help and wouldn't have been able to live with myself if the car had crashed and hurt either the passengers or some other road user.

Last year on my way home i saw a older lady (70/80s) sitting on the inside of a blind corner on the off-ramp of a motorway at a roundabout. pulled up behind her with hazards on using my car as a barrier further back so people could see when coming off the motorway to push her round and into a lay-by beside the roundabout. Didn't have any tools on me so just waited til the recovery truck turned up. I was amazed by the amount of people, especially builders that just drove past and gawked without even offering to help.

Just hope if it was my gran in that situation someone would stop!

Karma was working i guess when my grans clutch let go on a back road near my house and a great guy that happened to live round the corner from me towed her back to our house.

Similar thing happened to a friend up in Glasgow a few years ago. It was for a hidden camera show/news report after Glasgow was nominated as one of the "Friendliest Cities in Europe". rolleyes

The kindest thing that happened to me was after I had a Vauxhall/4x4/central reservation meeting when I was 17 in 2010. Crash barrier won, the police towed me up to the slip road and I was then waiting for friend-of-a-friend with a recovery truck. After three or four hours in the freezing snow at the roadside, by now absolutely sick with the cold, a lot of people had asked whether I was okay to which I was confirming that I was. One couple though came back after 20 minutes with a McDonald's breakfast. It was badly needed (had the prang at 5.30am and by now it was 9.30am!) and just to have hot food was a relief. Very, very thoughtful of them and despite being a small gesture meant more than I could describe, and I always 'pay it forward' when I get an opportunity.

I was a bit dazed so never got the chance to properly thank them, but if Neil who had a blue Corsa is reading this, thank you laugh

Driving through the village I live in a few weeks back the car in front of me managed to completely destroy the door mirror of a parked car.

On my way home that evening I knocked on the owner of the hit cars front door and gave my details. Haven't heard anything yet but I'd hope that someone would do the same thing for me if someone ever knocked off one of my mirrors.
I saw 2 kids (maybe 15/16) aiming flying kicks at both wing mirrors of a car a couple of years ago. I gave chase and sat on them both as I called the police.

In the meantime the poor lady who's car it was returned to it, was distraught, then the police turned up and gave the kids the option of calling their parents and guaranteeing the old lady they'd pay for the damage.

They did, and the old lady treated me and the OH to a pub lunch to say thanks.

Police did comment that it was more than just likely that if someone hadn't stopped the kids would have got away with it and the old dear would have been either forking out or going through insurance.

As this isn't allowed in other threads I thought I'd share here. This Citrine Yellow Mondeo was passed by at least a dozen vehicles before I slowed opened my window and told the driver her rear door was open.

Knee jerk reaction to unwarranted hostility. The Mondeo is a lot rarer and a much more welcome sight than the soccer player specials that filled that thread recently.
