BMW.

to be fair, their marketing department must be staffed entirely by genius types as their cars are f****** awful
As soon as I read the header I thought some knobbler is bound to say BMW, the manufacturer that makes the //M series.
Cars that (almost always) hugely out perform their underpinnings. Have a read through the other suggestions and ask yourself, did you call it right with BMW?

Do you mean by the motoring press - and if so which medium - TV, papers, radio or glossy monthly mags?
It all seems to change so rapidly but I must admit I don't see a lot of bias across them all - maybe Evo on Porsches. I can't say that they're overrated though, because I've never driven one.

Speaking from personal experiences on cars I've owned I'd have to say Audi (but that's only a sample size of two).

To be able to make a judgement on the most overrtated manufacturer you'd have to live with/drive a range of their models - not many people do that.

Not in all cases, if you have a family and occasionally need 7 seats, go to the dump/need to tow a trailer, they are extremely useful cars. People who make inverted snob comments about Landies or Range Rovers should have listened harder at school so they could afford to run one. smile

What I meant is many Audi engines/ platforms are available in the Skoda, VW, Seat range for much less cash - the same can not be said for most BMWs.
To a certain extent that's true, but the platforms used by the A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5 and R8 aren't used by any other mainstream VAG brand.

Likewise, the only time you'll find anything bigger than a 2.0 4-cylinder engine in the Skoda, SEAT and Volkswagen brands is in the Touareg and Phaeton. EDIT: Forgot about the 3.6 V6 available in the Skoda Superb, but good luck finding one!

BMW

Bought one from a main dealer, never been treated so badly, car felt cheap inside, seats were uncomfortable, clutch went 12k miles in. Never again.
Whereas conversely my main dealer experience was perfect, and my 330 has been utterly reliable, comfortable and not at all cheap feeling inside for the past 40k miles. Will I buy another, absolutely.

So now where are we? Ah yes, impasse.

Land Rover and Porsche, imo.
Lol... I really enjoy mine, both for different reasons (obviously) but I think they deliver everything they promised to.

I guess to be over rated they need to have a reputation or the expectation of doing something they can't - sounds like Audi to me with the majority seeming to be dull cars sporting an S-Line dress. (Note : I don't mean the whole group, Seat and Skoda have some very good cars now)

Toyota clearly don't have the quality which their reputation was built upon (too many quality embarrassments recently)

I don't think Aston are over rated - they're about the brand and the looks more than anything else - and they do look wonderful.

And driven by utter pricks.
I think the pricks have moved on to Audi
I've found BMW drivers seem to let you out of junction's
And even use indicators sometimes
No they don't.
I do.

Any of those? I guess I've only nominated manufacturers that I have actually driven though.

Good suggestion (more so than Fiat). I always hope they're going to be great but they always seem to come up short of the mark.
