Seriously thinking of buying 2 new Transits over the VW Crafter.
Anyone got any views on the new trannie I know they haven't been out long but any advice would help.

You after the full fat tranny or custom?

I've just ordered the LWB custom limited.

It seemed by far the nicest van I looked at, and for the price, a no brainier.

Seemed to drive nicely, good load space, good to be able to slide 3M lengths under pass. Seat etc.

I bought the new Transit Custom Sport (155Ps engine) in August, and I'm just back from driving it to the Algarve and back. It's a great van!!

Sat at 85-90mph on the motorway with no dramas, great load carrying ability (the under-seat load through flap is a bonus), looks the part, and the cabin is remarkably car like.

Here's one when it was delivered, and one parked outside my place in Portugal.

A mate of mine has a 6 month old Transit Custom and absolutely loves it. He looked at the Transporter too but it was a lot more expensive compared to the Transit. I have driven his Transit and I must admit it's really nice to drive and carries a hell of a lot of stuff.

I love that, looks like a Fiesta ST that had a good Christmas.

The full size transit is a pig ugly beast. Buy a sprinter. Looks much nicer. Probably better built too.

New Trafic is better built and finished, why don't you have a look at one before commiting to the Transit

Sprinters don't rust either - just far more suerpior

Would avoid sprinters, 2 I've driven have both had replacement engines, both rusting at under 4 years old too

Guy over the road bought a standard transit after his old van's engine seized, seem's to like it I had a look over it when he first got it and it looks cracking inside, his only issue is its about 2" too long to fit into his garage

Sadly, it's been several years since the Transit was built in the UK. Current ones come from Turkey.

I've had Sprinter Vans... wouldn't buy another.

I've had a gearlever come clean out the dashboard in my hand, whilst driving down the road, plus more engine/gearbox issues than I've had with anything else.

Oh, and don't start on the rust.

Can't work out why they've designed two front ends, one large ugly snout type grill and one better looking with the grill divided into a narrow one across the lights and the larger one lower down.

Also why have they gone to town and put indicators on the outside of the wing mirrors? Mirrors are regularly clipped or scraped in every day use on a van, even when parked. So now most likely a couple of hundred quid to replace.

They fold using electricity too... at least they do on mine!

You do realise they are 2 separate vehicles? It's like saying why do Fiestas look different to Focuses.

If you want to know anything regarding the New Transit, the L4H3, feel free to PM me V8Driver. I work for Ford Commercials, albeit about 4 hours away from yourself, so not tote-ing business, but would be happy to assist in anything I can for a fellow PH'er.

Over the Sprinter/Crafter, the new Transit is quieter, smoother, a higher standard specification, and can be purchased a lot cheaper. There are some great deals on at the moment if your quick about ordering.

What's the point of the transit custom?

It's a van - you put things in the back and drive them places?

The Transit Custom replaces the SWB Transit of before. "Transit" now is the larger vans only, Custom is your SWB (with a LWB option), Connect is two sizes, and then you have Courier and Fiesta. its a van for every need

Last time I checked, that's exactly what the standard transit did... why buy a "custom"?
