5-6k Fun daily drivers?
Discussion
I can't take driving my '07 1.3 CDTI Corsa any more, it's so dull. So I've saved up a bit for something new.
I drive around 11k/Year, with more than half of these done during 5 months a year on the motorway commuting to university, don't think this alone will justify for me having to go diesel? So requirements; 35+ MPG, Reliable, "Insurable". I've no need for storage or 5 seats so anything goes really.
I'm 21 with 3 years driving and 2 years no claims, I do have a non fault claim, I was sat at lights and got rear ended. So insurance isn't friendly yet. Current ideas..
Suzuki Swift Sport
Twingo 133
MX5
Ideally I'd like something with more punt like a Cooper S, Clio 197 etc but they want closer to 2k in insurance, bit high really.
So can anyone think of other cars I could look at?
Thanks

My girlfriend had a Swift Sport and it was excellent, reliable, decent on fuel, handled well, was brisk enough to have fun in and a hoot to thrash down a b-road. Downsides were a seating position a touch high for my liking and the rear wiper was crap, even when newly replaced.
Excellent car though and if you want fun and cheap it's worth a look. I'd also be tempted to look at a Civic Type R if I were you - a good step up in performance but the fuel and insurance may sting a tad.

Hmm I think I really need to test drive some of the suggested cars. If only I could afford a GT86, this would be so easy for me.
Would therefore recommend an RX-8 231, personal experience says its very similar to the GT86 in feel, I own both. Fuel economy isn't fantastic but you can find them relatively cheaply. Ideally find one with a recent rebuild and good history or a dead one to do it yourself.Would have said Honda S2000 but insurance would probably kill you. As others have said, MX-5 (NC) or MR-2 are good choices. Another option is S14 200SX although not too sure how you will fare with insurance on those though so try a specialist broker like Sky.

I needed a fun daily driver.
I spent £5k and bought this. ETA, im only 1 year older than you. Insurance is £750 a year on an agreed value policy.

I was originally set on an NB MX5, but with a conversation with my mums other half, a mechanic of 40+ years, he doesn't want me to have an MX5, he somehow thinks they're unreliable. don't ask me how, but it's easier to keep everyone happy if anything goes wrong, therefore I was leaning towards the swift. But now I'm backing the MR2, can't believe I forgot about them
