Looking for someone who drove a hot hatch in the 80's
Discussion
Hi!
I work on a television programme for Channel 4 called For the Love of Cars and we are currently looking for someone to speak on camera with our presenters about their personal experiences of driving a hot hatch on the M25 in the late 80's or early 90's.
If this was you or you know someone who might have done this please get in touch:
Ellen.stewart@loveproductions.co.uk
Thanks so much!
Ellen

I would of asked my father, but sadly, he was mostly an A1/A59 driver.
Actually, he might have hit the M25 a couple of times, but this would probably have been in a Cavalier, so of no use.
What if I sit in a 1980's hatch whilst looking at pictures of the M25, would this be ok?

The M25 didn't open as a fully orbital motorway until 1986, so it didn't exist for most of "the 80s". I love it when I lived thorough most of what is ancient history :-)
I drove a brand new XR2 occasionally on there in 1988 and an XR4X4 from 89, then a brand new Citroen BX 19 GTi from 89-90. I have zero interest in being on telly though.

It seems like the M25 has been around longer than it has, it was only completed in 1986! (It still needs work though, should have been 4 lane all the way around).I drove a brand new XR2 occasionally on there in 1988 and an XR4X4 from 89, then a brand new Citroen BX 19 GTi from 89-90. I had an MG Metro and a Ford Orion 1.6i (basically an XR3). I was done for speeding in the Orion on Xmas eve at 8am overtaking a line of diggers on the M40, apparently the other vehicles "looked like they were standing still", which at 20mph they pretty much were.
M25 was, and is, the most boring road to drive a quick car on since the M11.

My Renault 5 Turbo 2 broke down with a flat battery on the M25 near Enfield. Fortunately I was expecting it and carried a spare with me to complete my journey. Turns out the thick copper cable into the back of the alternator had melted through in the toasting engine bay.
That wasn't really the highlight of my 14 years ownership experience to be honest though. Chasing a 288 GTO down the M1 was more fun.
